One of the most useful things you can get in Gothic 1 Remake is a mount.

While the game doesn’t have a gigantic open world to explore, getting everywhere on foot does still take quite a while. Thankfully, you can just get a friendly Scavenger to ride, if you know who to talk to.

In this guide, I’ll tell you how to get the rideable Scavenger mount.

Meet Cohsel

The very first thing you need to do is to meet Cohsel. He lives in the hut marked on the map above, just west of the Old Camp.

When you encounter Cohsel, exhaust his dialogue and then ask him about the Scavengers. You’ll need to persevere and ask him about Scavengers three times in a row.

Seeing how stubborn you are, Cohsel will relent. This officially starts the “Beak Performance” quest! You now need to gather a few materials for him…

Gather Kingstide

As Cohsel asks, you’ll need to gather 5 Kingstide flowers for him first. You can find these flowers at the bottom of most lakes. I recommend the spot marked on the map above, which is where you can also find Homer.

Homer is important here because you can talk to him to train your Diving skill. If you feel like you need more time underwater to gather the Kingstide, pay him a visit.

That aside, you can find the Kingstide flowers by diving in the lake there. Swim around a bit until you gather 5 of them. The screenshot above shows what they look like for reference. They’re tall pink flowers.

Once you’ve gathered enough Kingstide, return to Cohsel back at his hut. He’ll then, of course, ask you to collect something else.

Gather Leather Strips and Wolf Skin

Your next goal is to collect 2 Leather Strips and 3 Wolf Skins. Both of these are fairly easy to get, but we’ll start with the Wolf Skins here.

To be able to gather Wolf Skins, you’ll first need to learn the Take Fur skill. You can learn this from Aidan, who lives directly west of Cohsel’s hut. He’s not far off, so just leave Cohsel’s and go west.

Once you’ve learned the Take Fur skill from Aidan, just explore and you’ll run into hostile Wolves frequently. Slay them and loot them until you collect 3 Wolf Skins.

Alternatively, you can also just purchase Wolf Skins, if you wish. They’re sold by Cavalorn near Cohsel’s hut, and Mordrag at either Old Camp or New Camp, depending on your story progression.

For the Leather Strips, you can purchase or steal them from Fisk at the Old Camp. He’s in the marketplace area, in the eastern side of the Old Camp.

Once you’ve obtained the 3 Wolf Skins and 2 Leather Strips, return to Cohsel and deliver the goods. This time, he’ll tell you to just wait and he’ll have everything ready for you.

Wait One Day

At this point, you’ll need to wait for the next in-game day. Either pass the time normally or just go rest to speed things up.

When 1 day has passed, return to Cohsel and talk to him once again. He’ll give you the Scavenger Whistle, which you can find in the Miscellaneous section of your inventory. Use it to call a friendly Scavenger you can use as a mount!

So, there you have it. That’s all you need to do to get your very own Scavenger mount in Gothic 1 Remake!
