8 articlesThe Cult’s Recipe is one of the quests you need to complete as part of the Admission to the Old Camp chain in Gothic 1 Remake. Dexter sends you all the way to the Swamp Camp to steal a secret alchemy recipe from Cor Kalom’s laboratory.
On paper, it sounds simple. But in practice, the road to the Swamp Camp is packed with enemies that can kill you fast if you are not careful, and the chest holding the recipe requires lockpicking to open. In this guide, I will walk you through the whole thing so you can get it done without any unnecessary detours.
Quest Guide for The Cults Recipe
Once you pick up the quest from Dexter, turn around and you will find Baal Parvez nearby in the market area. Talk to him, ask him about the Sleeper, and then ask him to take you to the Swamp Camp. He will agree and escort you there, handling the enemies along the route as you go.
The road to the Swamp Camp is not forgiving for an undergeared character so having him alongside you makes the whole journey significantly safer.

If for some reason Baal Parvez does not appear or seems to be bugged, do not worry. Check the video below as it shows the complete route from Dexter’s location to the Swamp Camp so you can make the trip on your own if needed.
Cor Kalom’s Laboratory
Once you reach the Swamp Camp, head inside and keep going straight. You will find an NPC called Lester not too far in. I have marked him in the image below so you know who to look for.
Talk to him and select the dialogue option “I’m looking for…” followed by “Cor Kalom’s Laboratory“. Lester will then offer to take you there himself. Simply follow him and he will lead you straight to the laboratory.
Lockpicking
Inside the laboratory you will find Cor Kalom. Behind him sits the chest you are after. That is where Kalom’s Recipe is locked away.
Wait until the area is clear and Cor Kalom is not directly watching before you interact with the chest. Make sure you save your game before attempting to open it in case things go wrong or you get caught in the act.
Once you have your opening, interact with it and lockpick it open. Make sure you have lockpicks on you before attempting this. If you did not pick any up before leaving the Old Camp, Mordrag sells them in the market area near Dexter so you can grab some before heading out.

Once you have Kalom’s Recipe in hand, retrace your steps back to the Old Camp. Head back to Dexter in the market area and talk to him. Select the “I have your recipe” dialogue option and work through the conversation until it wraps up.
Once it does, the quest will be marked as completed and Dexter will hand over your rewards along with his vote which counts towards earning Diego’s recommendation to join the Old Camp.
