11 articlesThe Xardas quest is one of the most significant quests in Chapter 4 of Gothic 1 Remake. It sends you deep into Orc territory to find the rogue necromancer Xardas, but getting into his tower is not as simple as just showing up. A demon gatekeeper blocks the entrance and will only let you in after you bring back the hearts of all three elemental golems guarding the surrounding area.
Each golem has a specific weakness and going in with the wrong weapon or spell will make the fight a lot harder than it needs to be. The Orc Lands are among the most dangerous regions in the game during Chapter 4, so coming prepared matters more here than almost anywhere else. In this guide, I will cover every golem location and exactly how to take each one down so you can get into Xardas’s tower without unnecessary detours.
Complete Xardas Quest Guide
Before you go after any of the Golems, take some time to prepare properly. Each Golem has a specific weakness and going in without the right tools will make the fights significantly harder than they need to be.
First make sure you have a Blunt weapon in your inventory. A mace, hammer, or battle axe will work. You need this specifically for the Stone Golem as blunt weapons are highly effective against it. Next you need a Fire Spell for the Ice Golem and an Ice Spell for the Fire Golem.

Gothic 1 Remake: The Cults Recipe For Dexter Quest GuideJun 10, 2026If you are not a magic user or do not have these spells unlocked yet, head to Cronos and purchase the relevant spell scrolls from him. They work the same way as casting the spells yourself and will get the job done without needing any magic investment. On top of that, stock up on Mana Recovery Potions before heading out.
All three Golems are located in the same general area and are not too far apart from each other. I have marked the location on the map given below. More specific details on each individual Golem’s exact location are broken down further below.
Location of the Stone Golem
To reach the Stone Golem, head into the Arc Camp and make your way north west directly from the entrance. Keep going in that direction and you will come across it without too much trouble.
Location of the Ice Golem
After taking care of the Stone Golem, follow the path shown in the video below. You will need to climb up the mountain until you reach the snowy area at the top.
Be careful as you make your way up since this area is patrolled by Tundra Wolves that will not hesitate to attack you, especially if more than one catches you at the same time. Once you reach the top you will find the Ice Golem waiting inside a cave up there.
Location of the Fire Golem
Once you have taken care of the Ice Golem, head back out of the cave and make your way down to the bottom of the mountain. Follow the area where the lava is flowing and you will find a cave entrance there. Head inside and you will be able to find the Fire Golem.
Xardas Tower
Now that you have collected all three Golem Hearts, head to the Xardas Tower which is conveniently located directly outside the Fire Golem cave. Head out of the cave and turn right and you will reach it quickly as shown in the video below.
Once you are inside the tower, speak to the demon you encounter and offer it the three Golem Hearts. This is what grants you access to Xardas himself. After handing over the hearts, make your way up to the top of the tower where Xardas is waiting and speak with him to continue the questline.

That covers everything you need to do to get all three Golem Hearts and gain access to Xardas in Gothic 1 Remake. The meeting with Xardas is one of the most significant story moments in Chapter 4. Other than that, it is worth taking your time at the top of the tower as well since Xardas sells useful scrolls, amulets and can also teach you the Orcish language which opens up new dialogue options down the line.
