The Arch-Militant is an advanced archetype that can be unlocked upon successfully working through level 1- 15 of either the Warrior or Soldier archetypes in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader.

It’s a highly versatile build that can slot into numerous different playstyles and hence makes them the perfect support class.

They can switch up their weapons and styles mid-combat, switching from ranged to close quarters as the need arises!

Characteristics in Warhammer 40k: Rogue trader

The main reason you’ll want to go down the Arch-Militant route is for its versatility. To be best use this class, you’ll want to be balancing your characteristics between:

  • Agility
  • Ballistic Skill
  • Strength
  • Toughness
  • Weapon Skill

This means you can adapt to any situation that might present itself! If you’re in close quarters, you have your Strength, Weapon Skill and Toughness to soak up some damage and deliver decent hits.

Alternatively, if you have a tank on your companion loadout you might want to sub the Arch-Militant further back and pick off enemies from afar with a powerful ranged weapon.

Here, your Agility and Ballistic Skill will let you hit targets and move across the grid quickly!

Levelling Up The Archetype

Devastating Attack in Warhammer 40k: Rogue trader

Upon levelling up either warrior or soldier archetypes, you’ll reach the Arch-Militant. You’ll automatically be given the Devastating Attack talent.

This will trigger a toughness resistance test that if failed will cause enemies to suffer a negative effect based on your attack type.

This is based on your BS or WS bonus which can quickly stack and deliver damage against your enemies.

Following this, we’d recommend taking the following pathway as you level up the skills and abilities in the archetype itself:

  • Level 16 – Arch-Militant/Versatility
  • Level 17 – Kick
  • Level 18 – Martial Art
  • Level 19 – Steady Superiority
  • Level 20 – AP Increase/Ballistic Skill
  • Level 21 – Close-Quarters Training/Ballistic Skill
  • Level 22 – Cautious Approach/Nimble
  • Level 23 – Athletics/Exploit Weakness
  • Level 24 – Agility/Grenadier
