Skill Gems are unique items you can equip in Path of Exile 2 to gain new powers, but they can also be upgraded to strengthen said powers further.

The upgrading process is thankfully pretty simple. However, like most things in Path of Exile 2, it depends a lot on finding certain randomized loot!

We can’t help improve your luck in this game, but we’ll at least tell you what items to look for and how to use them to upgrade your Skill Gems whenever you want!

How to Upgrade Skill Gems | Path of Exile 2

You can upgrade your Skill Gems in Path of Exile 2 by using Uncut Skill Gems, not to be confused with Uncut Support Gems. You can find these Uncut Skill Gems as a random drop from pretty much any enemy. Bosses and Elites have higher chances of dropping them, compared to common enemies.

These Uncut Skill Gems also come in different levels. Higher-level enemies drop higher-level variants and also have higher chances of dropping them at all.

Also note that they do not stack in your Inventory. Each Uncut Skill Gem will take 1 slot of Inventory space, so it’s a good idea to use or store them as soon as possible.

Once you get your hands on some Uncut Skill Gems, you can use them from your Inventory. Select them and a new window will appear, showing you all of the eligible Skill Gems you can upgrade. This also lets you create new Skill Gems, provided you have enough empty Skill Gem Slots available.

All you have to do here is select whichever eligible Skill Gem you want and click on Upgrade. It will level it up to the same level as your Uncut Skill Gem, consuming the uncut gem in the process. Do note that the Uncut Skill Gem has to be of a higher level than the Skill Gem you wish to upgrade, though!

Nonetheless, that’s all you need to know to be able to upgrade your Skill Gems whenever you want in Path of Exile 2. If you plan to farm enemies for Uncut Skill Gems, it’s a good idea to learn how to reset instances to respawn enemies.

Venezuelan gamer cursed by being interested by most games, resulting in a ridiculous backlog he’ll never be able to conquer. Been gaming for over two decades now! Few things exemplify his wide variety in gaming tastes as the fact that he’s a big fan of both Souls games and the Atelier series at the same time. Also a big fan of Yakuza/Like a Dragon, Deadly Premonition, Zero Escape, and Dead Rising, among others. Considers Lost Judgment and Sekiro to both be masterpieces.
