From new gameplay updates to cool new cosmetics, there is a lot to unpack. Our complete season 5 guide will look at everything new coming to Deep Rock Galactic with the latest update, helping you make the most out of the latest season.

Complete Guide To Season 5

So what does Drilling Deeper bring to the game?

  • New Seasonal Event
  • New Mission Type
  • Brand New Enemies
  • New Overclocks for Your Weapons
  • Customizable Difficulty
  • Old Season Reactivation
  • New Secondary Objectives
  • New Cosmetics

We will be looking at each of these aspects in more detail. There is a lot to look at here as some of the features are completely new. So without further ado, let’s get into it.

New Seasonal Event

The monolith you must destroy to access the Core Stone.

The seasonal event coming with season 5 of Deep Rock Galactic revolves around finding and collecting Core Stones. Core Stones are a valuable resource that can only be found within purple monoliths like the one in the image above.

Of course, this wouldn’t be a seasonal event without a bit of challenge, as while trying to get to the Core Stone, you will have to take on a completely new type of enemy called Corespawn Crawlers. These enemies will appear through dimensional rifts that the Core Stone will open.

You will find these monoliths containing the Core Stones all throughout your journey in Season 5. Be on the lookout for them, as successfully retrieving them will let you trade them for some amazing rewards.

New Mission Type

The Resonance crystals you must locate to find the Morkite Seeds deep in the ground.

Alongside the event, season 5 also brings with it an all-new mission type that takes you even deeper into the mines. The mission revolves around scanning for and mining a completely new resource called Morkite Seeds. These seeds need to be located using Resonance Crystals, which you can locate using your Telemetric Rangefinder.

Once you scan and find the Morkite Seeds, the Drillevator will go even deeper into the caves and retrieve those seeds for you. While scanning and operating the Drillevator, you will also need to take on hordes of enemies.

Brand New Enemies

A gameplay shot of combat against an enemy.

All throughout your time mining, you will encounter all sorts of creatures, and as expected, most of these creatures will try to kill you. Well, season 5 of this game brings 4 new enemies into the list of creatures to look out for.

Corespawn Crawler

Part of the seasonal event, Corespawn Crawlers are medium-sized enemies that are pretty fast and at the same time, pack quite a punch. You won’t run into many issues when fighting a singular Corespawn Crawler as they are not that difficult to take down. Most of the time though, you will have to fight multiple of them at the same time.

For now, these crawlers can only spawn through the dimensional rifts that the monoliths containing the Core Stone create.

Glyphid Stalker

Glyphids are a very common type of enemy in the game, and the newest addition to the Glyphid family is the Glyphid Stalker. These pesky creatures rely on stealth and the element of surprise to creep up on you before engaging you. One of the things that make the stalkers so annoying is the fact that they will weaken your shield.

Glyphid Stalkers are not that common to run into, which is honestly a good thing. It’s important to note that when a Glyphid Stalker is close, it will make a distinct sound alerting you of their presence.

Barrage Infector

A brand new Infector enemy, the Barrage Infector is a large enemy type that can deal devastating damage at close ranges. It has a shotgun-like projectile that isn’t the most accurate, but if you do get hit, you will probably lose a lot of your HP.

Fortunately, the Barrage Infector is a stationary enemy that can only launch projectiles when still. Along with that, it also has a large sac underneath its mouth that acts as the creature’s weakspot. Keeping your distance and targeting the sac should help you make quick work of this new enemy.

Vartok Scalebramble

The last new enemy, the Vartok Scalebramble is very different from all of the other creatures we mentioned so far. The Vartok Scalebramble will fire acid projectiles at you that can deal a good amount of damage. Alongside that, in its default armor state, the Vartock Scalebramble will be immune to most damage.

To take it down, you will need to open up its armor by destroying feeler nodes found scattered around the cave. Once the enemy’s shell is open, it will start to take a good amount of damage from you.

New Overclocks for Your Weapons

You can equip Overclocks to your weapon to make them stronger. The new season brings with it 12 new Overclocks for you to use.

Drilling Deeper brings with it 12 new weapon Overclocks, adding new dimensions to gunplay in Deep Rock Galactic. These 12 Overclocks are all for different weapons. There is also a rework for an already existing Overclock.

  • “Lead Storm” Powered Minigun: Rotary Overdrive
  • “Thunderhead” Heavy Autocannon: Mortar Rounds
  • “Hurricane” Guided Rocket System: Cluster Charges
  • Deepcore GK2: Burst Fire
  • M1000 Classic: Marked for Death
  • DRAK-25 Plasma Carbine: Conductive Thermals
  • “Warthog” Auto 210: Pump Action
  • “Stubby” Voltaic SMG: Hyperalloy Assembly
  • [Rework] “Stubby” Voltaic SMG: Micro-Conductor Add-On
  • LOK-1 Smart Rifle: SmЯt Trigger OS™
  • CRSPR Flamethrower: Scorching Tide
  • Cryo Cannon: Crystal Nucleation
  • Corrosive Sludge Pump: Combustive Goo Mix

All of the new Overclocks in season 5 are either Balanced or Unstable, with the majority of these being Unstable. Unstable Overclocks are generally considered the most fun ones as they provide the most exciting changes in gunplay.

Customizable Difficulty

You can alter the difficulty to your liking before going into a mission.

For players looking for an extra challenge, you will now be able to increase the difficulty of the game to your liking. Normally when you increase the difficult in games, everything will increase in difficulty. The Hazard 5+ difficulty setting allows you to customize the difficulty and choose which aspects you want to make harder.

There are currently 4 aspects that you can choose the difficulty for, and all 4 have 2 levels to them.

  • Aggressive Enemies

    • Level 2: Bugs deal 100% more damage. Dwarves take catastrophic damage from teammates. Environmental damage is 50% higher.

    • Level 2: 50% more enemies. 2 more enemies from the disruptive pool and 1 more from the special pool.
  • Tough Enemies
    • Level 1: Large bugs and bosses gain 50% resistance to damage.
    • Level 2: Large bugs and bosses gain 75% resistance to damage.

Old Season Reactivation

The new season allows you to change the active season. Over here we see the season being changed to season 1.

One of the coolest features being introduced in the new season is the season reactivation system. This will allow you to make an older season active, allowing you to enjoy content from that season.

Any progress you had made in a previous season will carry over into this, so you will start whee you left off. This feature should help you enjoy older seasons and get the rewards you might have missed from them.

New Secondary Objectives

You can track your secondary objectives from the top right of your screen.

Season 5 of Deep Rock Galactic will also see the addition of new secondary objectives that you can pursue alongside main objectives. There are different secondary objectives for regular missions and for Deep Dive missions.

For regular missions:

  • Swarmer Eggs: You will be tasked with tracking down and smashing Glyphid eggs.
  • BHA Barnacles: You will be required to shoot down barnacles scattered around caves.

For Deep Dive missions:

  • Deep Scan: Locatng Resonance Crystals using the Telemetric Rangefinder and performing deep scans. For the secondary Deep Scan objective, you will not need to do the Drillevator part.
  • Liquid Morkite Extraction: Locate liquid Morkite wells and use the pumpjack to extract it.

New Cosmetics

There are tons of new cosmetics that come with the new season.

Lastly, the new season also brings in tons of new cosmetics that you can unlock for free through the season pass.

For cosmetics, there are tons of new cosmetics for your guns and characters that are visually very stunning. Make sure you unlock all the cosmetics the new seasons has to offer. Check out all the cosmetics through the season overview section in the game.
