Granblue Fantasy: Relink is a surprisingly deep action RPG, so it can be hard for new players to sink their teeth without some tips and tricks.
Our guide will delve into some key things that the game itself doesn’t explain properly, which range from basics such as using consumables but also includes things such as how to look for rare materials!
So, when you’re ready, continue reading and we’ll give you all of our tips and tricks for new players.
Tips & Tricks for New Players | Granblue Fantasy: Relink Beginner’s Guide
Understand the Consumables
You will have four consumables set up as you start the game, with each one bound to a different direction on the directional pad.
You can see them on the diamond-shaped part of the HUD on the bottom left of the screen.
These are as follows, based on their direction on position on the diamond:
Up – A small healing item, that doesn’t heal much but they are plentiful.
Left – A large healing item. It heals quite a lot, but you don’t get many!
Right – Another healing item, but one that isn’t exclusive to you. This potion will instead heal your entire party, so it’s good to keep your allies alive.
Down – Last but not least, the Revival Potion. Hold the direction when you get knocked out and you will consume it, instantly bringing you back into the fight. Use it wisely to stage a comeback!
Using these consumables is instantaneous, with no animation or anything of the sort to go with them. Use that to your advantage by popping them as soon as they’re needed, they’re key to survival!
Look Out for Crewmate Cards
One of the rare first-time rewards from certain quests are Crewmate Cards.
These unique items can be traded in at Siero’s Knickknack Shack in the hub area. What do you get from them? Well, you get entirely new characters!
There are around 18 playable characters in this game, and 12 of them can only be unlocked through using these Crewmate Cards.
Whatever you do, though, just make sure to recruit new allies to your party. They will allow you to create new teams, giving you new tools and playstyles.
The one thing to keep in mind is that new characters will join at Level 20, so you will need to level them up. Certain Sigils, like Fast Learner, can help boost their Experience gain to help get them up to speed.
Use the Item Wishlist
You will acquire dozens of materials and items as you complete quests in Granblue Fantasy: Relink.
But sometimes you will simply need even more of these items, such as for upgrading weapons or enhancing Sigils.
Thankfully, you can add items to an in-game wishlist from the inventory! Simply look for the item you need more of in your inventory and pressY (Xbox) or Triangle (PlayStation) to add it to your wishlist.
Then, press X (Xbox) or Square (PlayStation) when you are going on a quest via the Quest Counter. This will allow you to use the “Search by Treasure” feature.
Simply select the wishlisted item you want to look for and the game will show you all quests that can drop the item as a reward.
This will be absolutely vital for ensuring that you have materials for upgrading your stuff, so make good use of it whenever you’re short on resources.
Do The Fate Episodes
Look, we get it, not everyone who plays the game is really in it for the story. As such, the visual novel-styled Fate Episodes can seem very uninteresting. After all, some people just want to slay monsters and get loot!
But, you should not ignore the Fate Episodes for each character.
Completing most of the Fate Episodes will increase the character’s stats, making them stronger and much more useful in combat.
So, even if you don’t care about the story of the characters, make sure to do the Fate Episodes. They provide very tangible gameplay rewards, and you don’t wanna miss out on that.
Make Sure to Equip Sigils
Following up on the previous point, you should make sure to equip Sigils for your characters.
You’ll get Sigils often as you complete quests, open chests, and progress through the story. Equip them from the Gear menu when you pause the game.
Nonetheless, the system is pretty intuitive as long as you simply remember to engage with it.
Also, don’t forget to upgrade your Sigils at the Blacksmith once you unlock the ability to do so. It will greatly enhance their potency, giving you an edge over your foes!
Learn Masteries
Lastly, it’s important that you make sure to use Mastery Points to unlock Masteries. You can access them from the Masteries option in the pause menu.
Masteries are, in essence, the skill trees for each character. Your characters will gain Mastery Points whenever you level up, then you get to freely allocate those Mastery Points to unlock new abilities.
Every single Mastery is useful in this game, but you should primarily focus on the diamond-shaped nodes. Those are active skill Masteries, so they give you more abilities to use in combat.
Circular nodes are instead passive abilities. They are also important and powerful, but they don’t expand your repertoire as directly as active skills do.
Either way, though, make sure to check the Masteries menu every now and then to spend your Mastery Points on new abilities. Tailor your characters to fit your playstyle while making them even stronger!
