Caviar is an edible artisan good made from fish roe in Stardew Valley. It can be eaten by the player to recover a good amount of health and energy or given as a gift to other characters.

Almost every NPC in the game likes caviar, so it makes for a good gift. It can also be sold for a nice profit if you make it yourself.

This guide will show you where to get it.

You will need to harvest Sturgeon Roe to make Caviar.

Start by getting a Fish Pond which you can buy from Robin at the Carpenter’s Shop for 5000 gold coins. It also requires 200 Stones, 5 Seaweed, and 5 Green Algae.

Any fish you put into this pond will produce roe. However, you specifically need Sturgeon Roe as the other types of roe aren’t good for making caviar.

Sturgeons can be caught in the mountain lake during Summer and Winter. They usually don’t appear on rainy days, so you should wait for sunny days.

You can also buy sturgeons from Krobus’ shop and the Traveling Cart. However, you can’t put them in the Fish Pond.

Once you’ve captured a sturgeon, hold it in your hands and throw it into the pond. Wait a while until the fish gives you a quest. Complete the quest to raise the pond’s capacity.

Get more Sturgeon to fill the pond after you increase its capacity. Then, just leave them alone and wait a few days.

They should produce Sturgeon Roe which you can get from the bucket by the pond. Next, craft a Preserves Jar with 50 Wood, 40 Stones, and 8 Coals. You can unlock its recipe when you reach Farming Level 4.

The only thing left to do is to place the Sturgeon Roe inside your Preserves Jar! Wait for a while for the roe to turn into Caviar.

Of course, buying caviar is also an option. The Traveling Cart has it at random times, but it’s quite expensive at around 1500 to 2500 gold coins each.
