Some people just want to get into the thick of things and gun down everything that they see and do barrel rolls until tunnel vision kicks in. But not you! You want to make the most out of what modern day technology has to offer and use the radar sitting in the nosecone of your fighter. Now the ingame interface in War Thunder has a tendency to overwhelm. Especially with the later tiers since you’ll be using something more sophisticated than just a crop duster. But don’t worry, that’s where we come in! We’ll show you every step of the way on how to properly setup the Radar in your F-16 and make sure you see everything coming your way!

Now in the hangar you’re going to have to navigate towards the upper left of your screen in order to bring up the Options from the Menu Button. We’ll use the search function from here on out so you won’t end up spending too much time trying to find every setting imaginable.
There will be two settings that you’re going to need to switch inside your options. First is cyclic switching under Air Battle Settings. Go ahead and set that to “no.” With this setting you get a cursor on your radar and it allows you to individually select your targets.
So for the second setting type in “Rectangular” and this time you will have to set that to “yes.” This sets your default radar which is normally a cone to a square. Basically it allows you to see more.
Now we can move on to the actual radar controls. Navigate to Controls which is just under Options and type in “radar.” Everything you need to bind and mess with can be seen in the image provided above.
We’ll start with the Alt modifier. Go ahead and click on Vertical Radar/IRST target cue control axis. For your Maximum value choose Alt + W and Alt + S for your minimum value.
For your Horizontal Radar, set your Maximum value to Alt +D and your Minimum value to Alt + A. With that done you should be able to move your cursor around you radar.
Looking good so far, head back to your settings, click on Lock Radar/IRST on target and this time bind that to Alt + Left Shift.
Next up is the Change Radar/IRST scope scale. What this does is it changes your search range, you would want to increase that to see more targets that are further out. You can bind that to the + sign on your number pad.
The next setting you’re going to click on is Change Radar/IRST search mode. You can go bind that to Num 7. This allows you to search a wider range so that you’ll be able to see targets further off to your left and right specifically.
Now the last setting we’ll be fiddling with is the within visual range combat mode. This puts your radar in a mode that floods the area out in front of you using a square box on your screen. You point that box towards your enemy. You can bind that to X as shown above.
And that’s it! A small reminder about the F-16’s radar though, it’s best that you keep its nose pointed where you’re searching as it may not always pick everything up unless you’re looking directly at it.

Here we have Alexis, he's been gaming ever since the second Famicom came out. Which is probably the reason why he goes back to platformers every now and then. Somewhere down the line he started getting more and more fascinated about looking at maps change colors for three to eight hours straight. If he's not out strategizing and beating the life out of his space bar in that order there's a good chance you can find him playing an FPS or talking someone's ear out about how game balance gets in the way of realism. You can tell that he really likes getting the full experience of whatever he gets his hands on.
