Torchlight Infinite: Skills and Talents Guide | Beginner’s Guide
The skills and talents system in Torchlight: Infinite encourages players to experiment with certain builds using a variety of skills and talent combinations.
If you’re a fan of ARPGs that involve tons of grinding and picking up loots, then Torchlight: Infinite might be perfect for you. As with most ARPGs, the game allows you to create a wide variety of builds using various combinations.
In Torchlight: Infinite, however, you have access to various skills and talents to help shape your character. In this guide, we’ll have a look at this system so you can get familiar with it as you play the game.
Skills and Talents Guide | Beginner’s Guide in Torchlight Infinite
As you start the game and choose your starting character, your next step is to choose which particular talent you want for that character. Unlike other ARPGs that rely on classes to mix up the gameplay, Torchlight: Infinite uses talents instead.
In the game, talents are classified into 5 different gods, each representing various elements. Moreover, each god will have 4 different panels which you can fill up with various talents from the following God Trees:
Goddess of Darkness
Goddess of Hunting
Goddess of Knowledge
God of Machines
God of Might
God of War
You can have access to 3 different talent panels as well as 24 panels of talents to choose from. The game will also recommend you certain talents which you can recognize via an asterisk. This is really helpful for beginners who don’t yet understand the game’s talent system.
As for the first panel, you can choose from one of the 6 talents that were mentioned above. Your choice of talent will depend on which character you pick. For example, if you play as Berserker Rehan, then the game would recommend that you pick the God of Might talent.
For your second panel, you will need to pick another talent from a list of available talents. These talents will be exclusive to your character. Once again, the game will recommend which is the best talent to pick for your chosen character.
Lastly, the third panel will be up to your preference. There seems to be no limit in this part, and you can experiment with whatever combinations you want.
Now that we’ve covered the talent system, let’s now talk about the skills. The game will provide you with 5 active skills and 3 passive skills. Not only that, but you can also upgrade those skills to make them even more powerful via Energy.
You can change an active skill however you like by going to the Skill menu and clicking on it and then clicking on the Change button. This will then show you the Skill Shop containing a list of skills that you can replace it with.
As you upgrade your active skills, you’ll be able to add support skills that will grant various effects to your active skill. For example, you can upgrade your Ice Lance skill with Multiple Projectiles which increases the number of projectiles it fires at your target.
Similar to your active skill, you can also change the support skills via the Change button. This lets you experiment with a lot of builds until you make one that you’re comfortable with.
Also, you have to pay attention to the support skill that you’re adding to your active skill. This is because some support skills won’t offer any benefit to an active skill if it doesn’t match its description. For example, if you’re using the Black Hole skill which is an area spell, supporting it with Multiple Projectiles won’t work at all.
The reason is that Multiple Projectiles only support skills that fire projectiles. However, a support skill like Freeze Chance will work with Black Hole since the description says it will support skills that deal damage.
