Trying to compete in the Eternal War PvP mode for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 can be tough if you don’t know what class is the best, but a tier list is sure to help.

If you spend a lot of time playing the PvE Operation Mode already, we recommend forgetting about what works there. You’re not dealing with Tyranids or even Chaos mooks in PvP! Fighting other players means that the class balance is inherently very different between modes.

Nonetheless, our tier list will quickly get you up to speed on what class is the best when it comes to PvP in Space Marine 2!

Tactical

There’s no denying that the Tactical is currently dominating the meta in Eternal War, so it should be no surprise to see it at the top of our tier list for the best PvP class in Space Marine 2. Their class ability, Auspex Scan, can reveal the position of all nearby enemies while also reducing their defenses somewhat. In particular, this basically fully shuts down enemy Snipers who use the Camo Cloak!

What’s more, the Tactical class has access to the widest variety of Primary Weapons in the game. This includes some top-tier choices, like the Melta Rifle, so you’re never lacking in firepower. As if that weren’t enough, this is also the only class that can carry 2 grenades at once.

Vanguard

Vanguard is a bit of a tricky one to place. He has issues when fighting multiple enemies, but his Grapnel Launcher makes him incredible when picking off targets. Any enemy hit with the Grapnel Launcher is stunned while the Vanguard zips toward them, allowing the Vanguard’s teammates to deal damage without worrying about retaliation. This also makes the Vanguard fantastic for initiating fights even if he’s on his own.

In summary, the Vanguard is extremely scary for any lone players. If you know there’s one in the enemy team, try to stick with your teammates!

Heavy

The Heavy class shines thanks to its powerful Heavy Weapons, particularly the Multi-Melta. However, their protective Iron Halo might actually be their best tool in PvP. A good Heavy player with Iron Halo is extremely hard to take down, and they even extend that protection to their teammates. This also makes them vital for controlling zones in Seize Ground and Capture & Control.

However, the Heavy is extremely susceptible to being ambushed. Heavies have slower movement and don’t have melee weapons to protect themselves in close-quarters combat. As you might imagine, this makes them prime targets for Vanguards, which is why the Heavy isn’t higher on this list.

Sniper

Realistically speaking, we feel that the Sniper has the potential to be much higher on the tier list for the best PvP class in Space Marine 2. However, we feel that they are a tad too volatile to play effectively. What’s worse, this is not even their own fault!

Alright, let us explain ourselves here. The Sniper class in Space Marine 2 PvP is unique in that it relies more on using its Camo Cloak to stealth instead of just sniping enemies from afar. Using stealth allows the Sniper to easily get the drop on enemies to quickly take them out before they’re a threat.

The issue, however, is that this same role is better filled by the Vanguard currently. To make matters worse, the Tactical’s Auspex Scan ability can reveal cloaked Snipers. On the other hand, Sniper can dominate with ease by using when there are no enemy Tacticals to deal with. This is why we feel that the class can feel really volatile!

Without relying on the Camo Cloak, the Sniper’s only role is using unique Primary Weapons like the Las Fusil and Sniper Bolt Rifle. Those certainly pack a punch, though, so they’re not bad by any means in the right hands.

Bulwark

The Bulwark’s most useful tool is their Chapter Banner ability, which they can use to restore Armour to nearby teammates. This makes them particularly useful in the Seize Ground and Capture & Control game modes. Bulwarks also have naturally high survivability, having more Health than other classes.

However, the Bulwark loses out big time in offense. They don’t have access to Primary Weapons at all, instead relying purely on their Secondary and Melee Weapons. While that’s not a big deal in Operation Mode, Melee Weapons feel too weak to rely on in Eternal War. Ultimately, this prevents the Bulwark from climbing higher up in our tier list for the best PvP class in Space Marine.

Assault

It saddens us to say it, but the Assault class is definitely the weakest class in Eternal War. While we’ve previously covered how strong this class can be with the right build even in max difficulty Operations, their strengths simply don’t shine in PvP.

The main reason for this is that the Assault’s strongest tool, the Jump Pack, is extremely impractical in PvP. You’re very likely to get shot and killed while attempting to slam foes with a jump. What’s more, the map design in Eternal War has areas that make the Jump Pack feel extremely finicky to use. In short, your best tool is very unreliable…

To make matters worse, the Assault class doesn’t get access to Primary Weapons. Just like the Bulwark, they have to rely on Secondary and Melee Weapons exclusively. This doesn’t work too well in PvP, though, even if it wasn’t an issue in PvE.

Nonetheless, there you have it, that’s the end of our tier list on what’s the best class for PvP Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine! If you want, we also have a tier list of what the best weapons in the game are.
