You can obtain the Ascend ability by entering the Gutanbac Shrine, which is the third shrine you should visit during Tears of the Kingdom’s tutorial.
This ability will allow Link to dive into ceilings, phasing through to reach areas that would be unreachable otherwise.
In this guide, we’ll tell you how to find and reach this shrine to unlock Ascend!
How to Get to Gutanbac Shrine in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
The Gutanbac shrine is intended to be the third shrine you visit while completing the Great Sky Island tutorial area at the start of the game.
This shrine is located in the snowy region of the Great Sky Island, which is the eastern part of the map. We have highlighted its location in the image above.
Remember that you can use your scope to pin it from a distance, it’s pretty easy to see this shrine from most of the Great Sky Island.
You should also make sure to bring some food that provides Cold Resistance since the low temperatures will drain Link’s health.
You can make Cold Resistance food by cooking Spicy Peppers on one of the various pots on the island.
Also, keep in mind that most of the walls in this region are covered in ice. This will prevent you from being able to climb them.
Sadly, this includes most walls on the cliffs leading to the shrine itself! Getting close to the Gutanbac Shrine is straightforward, but climbing up to it can be obtuse.
Once you’re in the region, you have to make your way to the western end of the Bottomless Cave. This end of the cave has some massive tree roots leading directly to Gutanbac Shrine.
Thankfully, the ice hasn’t affected these roots. That means that you can climb them! Jump on the roots and grab on, then start carefully climbing up.
You will end up right next to the Gutanbac Shrine.
Interact with the shrine to open it and get inside. You will be granted the Ascend ability as soon as you step in. The game will give you a tutorial explaining how to use this new ability, as well.
Venezuelan gamer cursed by being interested by most games, resulting in a ridiculous backlog he’ll never be able to conquer. Been gaming for over two decades now! Few things exemplify his wide variety in gaming tastes as the fact that he’s a big fan of both Souls games and the Atelier series at the same time. Also a big fan of Yakuza/Like a Dragon, Deadly Premonition, Zero Escape, and Dead Rising, among others. Considers Lost Judgment and Sekiro to both be masterpieces.
