Gray Crystals are one of the first mechanics you’re introduced to during the “Khvarena of Good and Evil” questline.

The Gray Crystals are said to be remnants of corruption, and they can only be cleared out by the power of the Khvarena. Destroying them will require you to find and free said Khvarena who appear as green orbs with wings.

Also, as the game itself notes, the Gray Crystals will reappear once the Khvarena disappear again from the area.

This means you will need to find them again if you leave an area and come back.

There’s no telling where these spirits will be hidden, so you will have to look around the area thoroughly! Also, make sure to break away anything that looks unstable, they might be hiding there.

The first cluster of Gray Crystals will appear as a tutorial during the first quest in the questline, titled “The Splendorous Sky That Day”.

You can’t progress until you break these crystals to clear a path, but a Khvarena is hiding nearby.

After the game tells you about Gray Crystals, look for a bunch of flimsy-looking rocks near the mine’s wall. There should be an arrow above them, highlighting the spot.

Hit them with a strong attack to break the rocks and reveal a helpful Khvarena! Just look at it and wait; it will fly over to the crystals and melt them to thank you for freeing it.
