There are several methods for determining your position or direction to help you safely arrive at your destination. But I understand it’s easier said than done. That’s why I’ve written this guide to help you get through DayZ.

Since DayZ is a survival game, one of the obstacles players must adjust to is the absence of a map to check the area from time to time. Because of this, newbies and those unfamiliar with the sites are susceptible to getting lost.

If you want to make your Navigating skills better, here are some useful tips that you might consider keeping in mind:

Road Signs: You can find various road signs across Chernarus, denoting the direction and distance to towns from where the sign is located. If you’re not sure where you are, compare the names on these signs to your Tourist Map. You now have a starting point for navigating once you know which town you’re in.

Railroad: If you keep following rail lines, you will inevitably come across a train station, usually with the town’s name displayed. It can also serve as a reference point for the coast.

The Coast: Since Chernarus connects to the sea in the south and east, this is the most straightforward approach, provided you’re near the shore and know your location.

Turn your back to the sea if you’re on the south shore, and you will be facing north. While on the east coast, you will know you’re facing north when the water is to your right.

Hiking Trails: Hiking paths are an excellent alternative for players who don’t want to walk around roads, get lost in the woods, or simply want a picturesque route around Chernarus.

Physical terrain announcements and posts referring to where the trails lead are relatively easy to locate. There are also thin, black paths that distinguish the tracks themselves.

Power Lines: Power lines can also be used to navigate across the countryside. The power network comprises a plant in Elektrozavodsk, substations, and high-voltage transmission lines that span almost the entire area of Chernarus.

If you are lost, following power lines is a sure method to find a town. If you can’t find them, look for paths carved straight through trees on surrounding hilltops.
