To start your adventure into Sorcery, you will need to head to Shaleback Hollow in the Exiled Lands. It’s a cave found on the E5 quadrant of your map on the southeastern corner of the Unnamed City.

You don’t have reached a specific level or anything like that, so feel free to head into the cave whenever you want.

Make your way to the end of this cave to find a Thaumaturgy Bench with a book on top. You’ll find a book which you should interact with. Doing so will let you gain Basic Sorcery knowledge alongside two starter spells.

You will also get the Tome of Kurak and an Arcane Staff. Upgrading the tome will allow yo to learn new spells, while the staff can be used to cast the spells.

Lastly, you also get the crafting recipe for the Thaumaturgy Bench. It will require 300 Stones, 50 Crystals, and 50 Iron Bars.

We’ll cover the bench and tome shortly, but let’s first go over how to use the staff to cast spells.

How to Cast Spells

First off, equip the staff like any other weapon. With the Arcane Staff in hand, press the Attack button. By default, this is Left Click on PC, RB on Xbox, and R1 on PlayStation.

This will cast a few stones in front of your character. These are your spells, also known as Words of Power. Aim at them to read a description of the spell and press Attack while aiming to confirm.

You will also notice a sack icon below the spell’s description. This tells you that the spell will consume one Burlap Sack. You can get more sacks by killing sorcerer enemies.

Now, let’s go over how to learn more spells to expand your magic abilities.

How to Learn New Spells

To begin, equip a Construction Hammer and open the crafting menu. Build your own Thaumaturgy Bench once you have the materials.

Interact with the Thaumaturgy Bench. You should now see 3 menu windows. The leftmost is your inventory, the middle is the bench itself, and the rightmost lists crafting recipes.

Hover your cursor over the Tome of Kuraka on the crafting window so you can check the materials required to upgrade it.

Of the 4 materials, two will always be static: the tome itself and a Sorcerous Spell Page. The other 2 materials will change with every upgrade but are regular materials.

You can get Sorcerous Spell Pages by killing sorcerers found across the game’s world. However, you will sometimes get Failed Sorcerous Spell Pages.

If you get 10 failed pages, you can craft them into 1 proper Sorcerous Spell Page at the Thaumaturgy Bench. To complicate things further, you will need to have a Thrall at the bench.

Your thralls can also learn to craft these pages with other materials, but it will require them to research which will take a lot of time.

Once you finally have the materials for the tome upgrade, approach the Thaumaturgy Bench and place all the materials in the middle window. Click on the Craft button and you’re done!
