If you want to survive in Conan Exiles, you’ll need to get all of the metal bar types to craft increasingly better equipment.

As you might imagine, these metal bars are a crucial material for dozens of crafting schematics. They’re primarily used to make better gear, weapons, and tools. So, they always come in handy!

In this guide, I’ll tell you where to get all of the metal bars you need.

Get the Furnace

Before you start, make sure to get a Furnace. You can unlock the ability to craft it by learning the Blacksmith Knowledge under Stone Tools. It becomes available as early as Level 10. Building the Furnace itself only requires 250 Stone.

You can use Fiber, Wood, Coal, or Oil to fuel the Furnace. Then insert the raw ores you get into it to smelt them down into finished Metal Bars!

With that said, let’s now go over where to find each one of the ores.

How to Get and Make Each Metal Bar

Iron

To get Iron, you’ll need to look for Ironstone nodes. They are dark grey metallic rocks, much like the one shown in the example above. It’s a very common resource, so it’s fairly plentiful all over the Exiled Lands and Isle of Siptah.

To gather the Iron from these Ironstone nodes, you just need to destroy them with a Pickaxe. The better the quality of the Pickaxe, the more Ironstone you’ll yield.

With that said, there are three spots that are particularly fantastic for finding Ironstone. I’ve marked them on the map above for you, they’re all in the southern part of the Exiled Lands.

Out of these spots, the ones east are easiest to reach early on. However, the westernmost spot by Fleshtearer Falls has the largest concentration of Ironstone nodes. If you can make the trip, it’s well worth it!

To turn the Ironstone into Iron Bars, put it in the Furnace along with some fuel of your choosing. You’ll get 1 Iron Bar for every 2 Ironstone.

Steel

To make Steel Bars, you’ll first need to make Steelfire. For that, you’ll need the Firebowl Cauldron Knowledge, which you can unlock at Level 15.

Using the Firebowl Cauldron, combine these two items:

  • Tar x1 – Primarily obtained as a Bark byproduct from the Tannery. Tan any hide-yielding animal product (feline pelt, hyena pelt, reptile hide, wolf pelt, and bat skin) and use Bark as fuel.
  • Brimstone x1 – Found in caves, the jungle’s ocean, and Shattered Springs in the Exiled Lands. In Isle of Siptah, look around vaults and leyshrines.

When you’ve obtained at least 1 Steelfire, combine it with 3 Iron Bars and any fuel at the Furnace. It will smelt into 1 Steel Bar. So, in short, 1 Steelfire + 3 Iron Bars = 1 Steel Bar!

Hardened Steel

For this one, you’ll need to obtain Black Ice. As the name indicates, it’s a dark ice crystal that primarily grows in cold regions. You can see an example of it in the screenshot above.

You can find Black Ice in the northwestern part of the Exiled Lands. It’s the cold region, though, so make sure to have equipment or food to stay warm!

In the Exiled Lands, there are two notable spots to gather Black Ice. The easiest one is by the Outcast Camp in the south. Alternatively, the Temple of Frost in the north has many more nodes, but it’s harder to reach.

In the Isle of Siptah, you can find Black Ice fairly easily around The Tower in the center of the map. Alternatively, it’s also fairly common around vaults and leyshrines. It’s easier to find than in the Exiled Lands, overall.

To make the Hardened Steel Bar, combine 1 Steel Bar with 1 Black Ice and any fuel you want at the Furnace. It’s as simple as that! Well, on paper at least, it takes a lot of effort to get it all…

Star Metal

To get Star Metal, you’ll need to look out for meteorites. They look like the one in the example above, a round bronze-like metal stone.

These meteorites spawn randomly, falling out of the sky and crashing into the ground as part of the Meteor Shower event. There are two locations where this event can occur.

The first location is in the Exiled Lands, in the cold biome in the northwest. I recommend just spending the time there while you wait for it, as the meteorites aren’t extremely common.

In the Isle of Siptah, the meteorites instead fall around The Tower in the center of the map. Much like in the Exiled Lands, though, the event is not extremely common, so you’ll need to be patient.

Meteor Showers can potentially happen every 30 minutes. However, there’s a 3-hour cooldown between Meteor Showers, so keep that in mind.

Once you spot a meteorite on the ground, you’ll need to crack its outer shell first. You can use any explosive for this, such as Explosive Arrows, Explosive Jars, Exploding Traps, or Demon-fire Orbs.

Using an explosive will reveal the blue inner core, which you can break down using a Hardened Steel Pickaxe or better to obtain Star Metal Ore.

To make the Star Metal Bar, combine 1 Brimstone + 1 Black Ice + 1 Star Metal Ore and any fuel at a Furnace. It’ll all smelt into 1 Star Metal Bar.

Composite Obsidian

To make this metal bar, you’ll first need to gather Obsidian. It’s a nearly-black metal which looks much like the one shown above, for reference.

You can find Obsidian nodes most commonly around the volcanic biome in the northern part of the Exiled Lands. The Road of the Pilgrim is a good area for this, for example.

In the Isle of Siptah, you can find Obsidian all over the Isle of Dusk. The map above marks a spot that’s fairly easy to reach and has a solid density of Obsidian nodes.

To make a single bar, you’ll need about 10 Obsidian. So gather at least that much. You’ll also need 1 Steel Bar per Composite Obsidian, so plan accordingly!

Now, you’ll need to find one of two special furnaces. Your own isn’t strong enough for this!

The first special furnace is the Volcanic Forge in the Exiled Lands. You can find it within the Well of Skelos, in the northernmost part of the volcanic biome.

The second special furnace is the Forge of the First Men in the Isle of Siptah. You can find it in the northern part of the Isle of Dusk, as shown above.

Out of these two, the Forge of the First Men is by far the easiest of the two to reach. So, if you have access to the Isle of Siptah, that’s my recommendation!

Either way, to make the Composite Obsidian reach either of these forges. Then, combine 10 Obsidian and 1 Steel Bar to smelt them into 1 Composite Obsidian. No fuel needed.

Gold

Gold Bars can be made in one of two ways. You can smelt 30 Gold Coins or 3 Goldstone at a Furnace. Either way, you’ll get 1 Gold Bar as a result, no matter which one you pick. Nonetheless, that’s what you need!

To get Gold Coins, your best bet is the shipwrecks at Buccaneer Bay and near Dagon’s Embrance. Both of these locations are on the eastern edge of the Exiled Lands.

You can loot a lot of chests in these shipwrecks, most of which will contain a pretty healthy sum of Gold Coins. You’ll also get some Silver Coins, as a bonus!

For the Goldstone, you can realistically only get it if you have access to the Isle of Siptah. You can find a massive load of Goldstone nodes in the spot marked on the map above, in the middle of the Isle of Dusk area.

Alternatively, you can also get Goldstone randomly whenever you break down Obsidian nodes. However, that’s pretty rare and unreliable, so I would advise against it.

Silver

Much like the Gold Bars, you can get Silver Bars in two ways. Smelt 30 Silver Coins or smelt 3 Silverstone at a Furnace. Either method will give you 1 Silver Bar.

Also, much like Gold Bars, you can get Silver Coins easily at the shipwrecks by Buccaneer Bay and Dagon’s Embrace. Again, both of these locations are on the eastern edge of the Exiled Lands.

For Silverstone, there’s a reliable Silverstone mine directly west of The Unnamed City in the Exiled Lands. It’s at Rhinohorn Ridge, marked on the map above.

Khari Steel

Unlike all of the other metal bars before it, Khari Steel is not a craftable metal bar. It can only be found as loot and is exclusively used to craft Khari gear.

To get Khari Steel, you’ll need to enter the Wine Cellar dungeon. You can enter it by using the back door of the tavern in Sepermeru’s Waterside. It’s the one shown above.

Once you’re inside the dungeon, look for wooden chests like the one shown above. Loot them to get a few ingots of Khari Steel. You just need to keep your eyes open for them, as they’re hidden all over the dungeon in randomly-spawning spots!

That was the last of the metal bar types, so now you know where to get every metal bar in Canon Exiles! I hope this helps you survive better, exiles.
