164 articles“Broken Tools” is one of the many quest lines you can do as you explore Khaz Algar in WoW: The War Within.
This quest line is all about helping the Earthen Machinist Kittrin get back to work. In a moment of crisis, he lost all his tools… but he’s now ready to get back to work! All he needs is for you to fetch him his tools and help him reforge them.

Broken Tools Quest Line Guide | WoW: The War Within
Discarded and Broken
The first quest in the “Broken Tools” quest line in WoW: The War Within starts in Gundargaz, in The Ringing Deeps region of Khaz Algar. Meet with Machinist Kittrin in the spot marked above and he’ll ask you to retrieve his tools for him. His coordinates are 48.25 and 33.42. He’ll need 3 different tools, all of which are scattered in The Ringing Deeps.

The first one is the Machinist’s Gauge, which you can find near Ironhaul Station. The exact coordinates for it are 46.66 and 29.42.
It’ll be right next to a large archway by Ironhaul Station, look for a stone box like the one shown above.
The second set of tools are the Machinist’s Callipers, found east of Gundargaz at Brunwin’s Terrace. Their exact coordinates are 52.43 and 34.08.
They are just lying on the ground in the open.
Lastly, let’s get the Machinist’s Wrench. This tool is also east of Gundargaz and in the Brunwin’s Terrace area. The coordinates for it are 50.07 and 36.50.
They’re on a platform protruding from the cliffs in the area, you’ll need to fly to reach it.
With all the tools in your inventory, return to Machinist Kittrin in Gundargaz. He’ll be in the same spot as before, at 48.25 and 33.42. Give him the tools to complete the quest and you’ll be able to start the next quest right away!
The Weight of a World
As soon as you complete “Discarded and Broken”, talk with Machinist Kittrin to be able to start this quest. He’ll tell you about the last tool he needs, the Machinist’s Calibrated Weight. The issue is that it was eaten by a large worm creature known as the Oath-Eater.
You can find the Oath-Eater in a pool of water west of Gundargaz. Its coordinates are 44.70 and 31.49.
The Oath-Eater thankfully doesn’t pose much of a threat. It has short-range attacks and is fairly slow, so you should be able to take it down with ease. Put the worm down and you’ll be able to loot the Machinist’s Calibrated Weight from its body!
Return once again to Machinist Kittrin in Gundargaz, he’ll be in the same spot as always. Give him the Machinist’s Calibrated Weight to complete this quest and you’ll be able to start the “Reforged Purpose” quest right away.
Reforged Purpose
The last quest for the “Broken Tools” quest line in WoW: The War Within, it becomes available after completing both of the previous quests in this guide. Machinist Kittrin will ask you to help him reforge his tools, accept whenever you’re ready.
All you have to do for this quest is stand watch as Machinist Kittrin forges his tools back to their old glory. Every now and then, Spattered Charcoal will fly from the forge and end up in random spots around the smithy. Interact with the Spattered Charcoal to kick it back into the forge until Machinist Kittrin is done forging.
Once he’s done, talk with Machinist Kittrin one last time to turn the quest in. You’ll get his thanks as well as some sweet loot as your reward! What’s more, you’ll also get the “Broken Tools” achievement for completing this quest line in WoW: The War Within.
