Genshin Impact is getting its 5.0 patch soon, so it’s time to start thinking about who you should pull for.
We’re getting a pair of newcomers tied to the new Natlan regions, both of which can make the most of the region’s gimmicks. Alongside them, we’re also getting a rerun of some of the strongest characters from previous updates!
In this guide, we’ll do our best to tell you everything you need to know to decide who’s worth pulling for.
Who To Pull For In Genshin Impact Patch 5.0
Before we dive into the nitty and gritty of each character you can pull for in Genshin Impact 5.0, let’s first go over the banners that will be available. Do note, however, that most of the 4 Star characters for these banners haven’t been revealed yet. Besides, we’ll focus on the 5 Star characters due to them being the stars of the show. Nonetheless, these are the banners to expect:
Phase 1 (August 28 to September 17, 2024):
Sharktacular Surfari – Mualani (5*) and Kachina (4*)
Leaves in the Wind – Kaedehara Kazuha (5*) and Kachina (4*)
Phase 2 (September 17 to October 8, 2024):
Seeker of Flame-Wrought Secrets – Kinich (5*)
Reign of Serenity – Raiden Shogun (5*)
It’s also worth noting that there’s a new mechanic in the gacha that increases your chances of getting the banner’s 5 Star character. Read our article about Capturing Radiance to know more!
With all that laid down, let’s now take a look at each of the banners individually to decide who’s worth pulling for.
Sharktacular Surfari
Mualani is a hypercarry Hydro DPS that excels most when triggering the Vaporize Elemental Reaction. As such, you’ll need solid Pyro characters to pair with Mualani. At the same time, most of her damage is dependent on her having high Max HP. This means that she won’t have any synergy with Bennett, which also limits Xiangling.
Ultimately, Mualani should be paired with either Dehya or Doma as her Pyro enablers. Use them to apply Pyro then switch over to Mualani to wreck enemies by triggering Vaporize! For the rest of your team, we recommend either Kazuha (or Sucrose) and Candace for support to further increase Mualani’s damage.
With all that said, you might have noticed the main issue here: Mualani is heavily dependent on having the right team.
If you don’t have a solid Pyro enabler for her at the very least, her banner isn’t worth pulling for in Genshin Impact 5.0. She’s also not particularly worthwhile if you already have a good Hydro DPS, such as Neuvillette. If you do have the teammates for her and need a strong and very mobile Hydro DPS, though… she’s definitely worth it!
As for Kachina, we don’t recommend pulling just for her. Not only would she be hard to get due to being a 4 Star character, but you can also get Kachina for free simply by progressing through the story in 5.0. She’s given to you through Archon Quest Chapter V: Act 1 “Flowers Resplendent on the Sun-Scorched Sojourn”.
So, don’t pull just for Kachina… unless she’s one of your favorite characters and you want to boost her by getting her to C2 or C6!
Leaves in the Wind
The 5 Star character for this banner is Kaedehara Kazuha. He’s an Anemo Sub DPS character and, quite honestly, one of the best characters in the game. He has really solid damage and also provides amazing utility to his teammates.
Kazuha is best when combined with the Viridescent Venerer Artifact set, which allows him to shred the Elemental RES of his enemies. This, in turn, enables the rest of his team to do even higher damage. As if that weren’t enough, Kazuha’s Elemental Skill can also pull groups of enemies together consistently to make them easy to take out.
Another thing that makes Kazuha shine is that he doesn’t rely on specific teammates, very much unlike Mualani above. He works in pretty much any team, is easy to use, can enable his teammates by grouping enemies, and can lower enemies’ Elemental RES.
In short, Kazuha is definitely worth pulling for. If you’re only going to pull on one banner during Genshin Impact 5.0, Kazuha might be your best choice.
Aside from Kazuha, you can also get Kachina from this banner as one of the 4 Star characters. As we mentioned in Mualani’s section, Kachina’s not really worth pulling for unless you want to get her Constellations. Otherwise, you get her for free during the story.
Seeker of Flame-Wrought Secrets
The 5 Star character for this banner is Kinich, who’s a Dendro Main DPS character. An important part of his kit is that he excels when triggering Burgeon and Burning Elemental Reactions.
This ultimately means that he pretty much requires Pyro teammates to shine. Thankfully, he synergizes decently well with Bennett. You can easily pair Kinich with Bennett and Xiangling to have a pretty solid team capable of dishing out great damage. He’s not too strict for team building as long as you just have solid Pyro enablers for Elemental Reactions.
Kinich’s biggest issue is that he is very lacking when it comes to AoE, with his kit focusing heavily on single-target damage. While his damage output is pretty good, he can feel very lacking when tackling larger groups of enemies.
Nonetheless, Kinich is a very solid Dendro Main DPS. He’s worth pulling for if you already have Pyro characters to pair him with and you like him. We don’t really consider him a must-have by any means, though, and you can safely skip him if you don’t have Pyro teammates ready for him.
Raiden Shogun returns as the 5 Star character for this banner. She’s a strong Electro DPS who can easily apply Electro effects from the off-field and also provides lots of Energy for her team. On top of that, she has an incredibly strong Elemental Burst capable of dealing high damage.
Her Elemental Skill allows Raiden to buff her entire team with the Eye of Stormy Judgment, which you can keep active at all times. Dealing damage to any foe while the effect is active will create a strong Electro AoE attack, which is why Raiden is a strong candidate for a strong off-field character. She’s also one of the best choices for any Hyperbloom team!
However, her Elemental Burst is what made her a popular part of the meta in previous updates. It changes Raiden’s moveset and gives her massively increased damage output. All of her attacks during this state are also considered Elemental Burst, which makes her extremely easy to build. You don’t need to upgrade the rest of her Talents if you rely on this one!
Overall, Raiden is still a very strong Electro DPS and she can work well in a wide variety of teams. However, she has lagged behind a bit compared to newer characters and no longer dominates the meta. Her versatility and ease of use make her well worth pulling for, but only if you aren’t pulling for Natlan characters or Kazuha.
In Conclusion
When it comes down to it, Kazuha is the best character to pull for during Genshin Impact 5.0. He’s one of the strongest characters in the game currently and works in pretty much any team so he’s never bad to have around. If there is one must-have character for this patch, it’s Kazuha.
However, you have to remember that this upcoming patch is also introducing the Natlan region. Mualani and Kinich are the only 5 Star characters for Natlan during 5.0, which makes them decently worthwhile as they have unique mechanics tied to the region. They do require certain teams to really make the most of, though, but they are worthwhile if you meet that criteria. If you don’t have solid Pyro characters, you might consider skipping them.
As for Raiden, she’s a solid choice. She’s more versatile than Mualani and Kinich are currently and is also easier to use. However, she doesn’t have anything special tying her to the Natlan region. That makes her a bit less desirable than Mualani and Kinich for the new content. For general use, though, she’s second only to Kazuha.
But well, that’s the end of our recommendations on who to pull for in Genshin Impact 5.0. Remember, we’re only looking at their general usefulness. If you don’t really care about the meta or having the best characters, simply pull for whoever you personally find most appealing!
