Genshin Impact 5.0 is almost here, implementing some nice banner system changes that Mihoyo recently showed and explained.
You can now trigger a random “Capturing Radiance” event when you pull on event Wish banners. This makes it easier to get the promoted characters, but the mechanic can be a bit confusing at first.
To make things easier for you, we’ll summarize everything there is to know about the banner system changes and this new mechanic in Genshin Impact 5.0!
How Capturing Radiance Works | Banner System Changes Explained
The one notable change to the banner system in Genshin Impact 5.0 is the addition of the “Capturing Radiance” event, as we mentioned before.
If you pull a non-promotional 5 Star character from the banner, the game has a hidden chance to replace them with the promotional one. This is the so-called “Capturing Radiance” event. In essence, it’s just an extra pity mechanic meant to make it easier for you to get the banner’s featured promotional character.
The Wish animation when it triggers is also somewhat different, as the Wish star will have a pinkish glow explosion on it.
However, Mihoyo didn’t reveal the chance for “Capturing Radiance” to trigger. They’ve merely stated that you now have a consolidated 55% chance to get the banner’s promoted character, up from the previous 50% chance. This implies that the chance for “Capturing Radiance” to trigger is around 10%.
It’s also worth noting that Capturing Radiance is exclusively for character banners. It doesn’t apply to weapon banners, so the chances of pulling the promotional weapon remain unchanged. You also have no way of affecting the chance to trigger Capturing Radiance, it’s still purely random.
On the upside, Capturing Radiance also doesn’t conflict with the current pity systems. It just adds to them. Essentially, it’s now easier for you to win the 50/50 chance to get the promotional character from your first 5 Star pull on a banner.
That’s all there is to know about the Genshin Impact 5.0 banner changes and the new Capturing Radiance mechanic. We hope Mihoyo reveal more information on the exact chances for it to trigger closer to the patch’s release.
Now that you know how it works, though, you should start thinking about who to pull for in 5.0!
