The Psyker is a powerful profession that adds unique gameplay functionality.
You can either create your own Psyker character or recruit companions like Idira and Heinrix who act as Psykers.
This guide will break down how to create a specifically powerful Psyker character with the ‘Purity in Flame’ build.
The Psyker Build – Character Creation
You’ll need the correct foundation when creating this Psyker build, so we’ll start with the Character Creation. Once you have adjusted your appearance, the Homeworld tab is your first important choice.
Homeworld
Psykers need a high willpower stat, since this makes them more effective at using their Psychic powers and resisting it from enemies.
The strongest option to select here is the ‘Imperial World’, due to it allowing you +10 WP. Alternatively, ‘Voidborn’ or ‘Fortress World’ also give +5 MP.
Origin
The next important choice is to select the ‘Sanctioned Psyker’ option from the selection of professions under the origin tab. This will give you access to those important psychic powers and specific gear.
Following this, you want to select ‘Sanctioned Psyker – Biomancer’. The Biomancer can control their own flesh as well as their enemies and allies. This will immediately grant players the ‘Biomancy’ and ‘Iron Arm’ features.
Archetypes
Here, you will want to select the Warrior archetype. Since this build is melee combat focused, this class offers the best attacks for that. We will be adding more Archetypes later as we level up.
Characteristics
The final area of importance for this character build are your Characteristics. For this build you’ll want to set your various stats to these specific values:
Willpower value to 55.
Weapon Skill value to 40.
Strength value to 40.
These three are the most important. Willpower will allow you to make greater use of Psychic Powers. Weapon skill will let you level up your weapons and combat capabilities quicker. Strength aids in your attack strength against enemies in melee combat.
Levelling Up Your Abilities
Skills & Characteristics
It’s worth noting before selecting your abilities, that periodically you’ll be prompted to add points to your various skills. Whilst there are six available, the three you’ll want to focus on are:
Coercion – Important for adding deflection to our armour.
Carouse – 2nd most important.
Athletics –3rd most important.
You will also be prompted to upgrade you Characteristics periodically. You’ll want to focus on the three that we selected during our character creation. Most important is Weapon Skill, followed by Willpower and finally Strength.
Abilities As You Level Up
For this build there are numerous abilities that you’ll want to select as you level up.
At level 16 you’ll select a new archetype, but these are what you’ll select as you level up from that base Warrior Archetype:
Biophysical Distortion – Level 4
Sanguine Siphon – Level 5
Invigorate – Level 6
Psy Rating 1 – Level 7
Heavy Armour proficiency – Level 8
Heroic act level up – Level 9 and 10
Combat Master – Level 10
Pyromancy – Level 11
Psy rating 2 – Level 12
Swift Movements – Level 13
Now you’ve reached level 16, you’ll want to select the Assassin as an additional archetype. This is great due to the enhancements it makes to your melee combat.
From then onwards, you’ll want to select the following abilities in this archetype:
Death Whisper – Level 17
Blazing Inferno – Level 18
Dispatch – level 19
Firestorm – level 22
Backdraft – Level 25
Nimble – Level 28
Professional Acumen – Level 28
Molten Beam – Level 30
Melting armour + Psy Rating 3 – Level 31
Sparks of the Greater Flame – Level 33
From Level 36 onwards, it is time to select another character archetype, this time the Exemplar. From this point, the build is largely complete.
This archetype will allow you to essentially enhance some of your previously acquired abilities – so pick your favourites and go from there!
Gear Needed
For this Psyker character build to be particularly effective, there are four pieces of equipment that you’ll want to find.
They work in conjunction with the various characteristics and skills we’ve selected, so finding them can really give you a huge in-game advantage. They are as follows:
Eyes of Joyeuse
This helmet will increase your Psy Rating by +1 for each rank of dogmatic and can only be selected as a sanctioned Psyker.
This is available rather late in the game in Act 4. It can be received in Colony Management as a reward from the Mining Colony.
Whilst it claims to only work against Demons, a bug in the game means that the Psy Rating is always in effect!
Arbitrar Solomon Vhyr’s Armour
Another piece of armour found early on in Colony Management as a reward. It’s Heavy Armour so you’ll need to acquire that ability when levelling up.
The armour works well since it adds an extra point of deflection for each point of coercion. Since we have been focusing on Coercion when levelling up, this is especially useful!
Chains of Domination
An accessory that can be acquired in Act 3, this will add +5 willpower to your stats every time you take down an enemy in a combat encounter.
Since we already know Willpower works well with the Psyker build, this can be especially great for the Psychic attacks.
Righteous Justice
A sword that can be acquired in the early game during Colony Management. The sword will work in conjunction with many of your Dogmatic stats, which we have been building up through our Characteristics and Levelling up.
That’s it for this character build guide. If you’ve followed along, you would have built up an incredibly powerful Psyker that gives you powerful psychic powers and allows you to quickly progress through the game.
