Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader has very challenging ship combat, but you can sand off some of the rougher edges by taking some proper measures.

Follow a certain route as you explore and get certain upgrades as you level up, and then you’ll suddenly notice the difficulty of ship combat starts to drop.

In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know to maximize the power of your Voidship quickly!

Getting Started: Proper Routing

Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader: Ship Combat Guide - Routes

As soon as you get access to the Voidship’s travel, you will feel compelled to just explore every system possible. While this is great and all, it’s actually detrimental in the long run due to space combat.

So, if you want to make things easier, you should instead follow a specific route that will allow you to get upgrades.

You’ll start in Furibundus, then go over to Trinnitos. Then, you’ll go further up to Telikos Epsilon and complete everything related to Janus in the system.

Telikos Epsilon system

Once Janus is dealt with, go to Silence of Mer-Segrit and scan the area. This will reveal the Mundus Valancius system.

Next up, return to Janus and start a manual warp towards Mundus Valancius. Go to Dargonus within the Mundus Valancius system and turn it into your colony.

At this point, you should now have the Foulstone, Janus, and Dargonus colonies available. It’s time to get upgrades through them!

Must-Have Colony Projects To Aid Space Battles

Now, it’s time to complect Colony projects which will end up helping us get upgrades for the Voidship. All the systems are intertwined in Rogue Trader!

Anyway, get the following upgrades in this order:

    • Ecstasiums for the Nobility – Unlocks the “Nobility is Perfection” talent, +2 Profit Factor, +2 Complacency.
    • Shield of the Emperor – Unlocks the “Pirates’ Bane” talent, an Escort Ship, +10000 Reputation with the Imperial Navy, +1 Security to all colonies, and x4 Weapons.

Getting New Gear For The Voidship

Now that the colonies have put in the work to help you, you should go back to the Voidship’s bridge.

Speak with High Factotum Janris Danrok on the bridge and select option 6, “I would like to order shipping and transportation of some goods.”

Trading with the Imperial Navy

Thanks to all of your colony projects, the Imperial Navy is now willing to trade with you! On top of that, you should have just enough to buy everything they have on offer.

Buy all of their Voidship equipment and install it, you’re now one step closer to becoming a force to be reckoned with in Space Battles.

Voidship Upgrades To Get

Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader: Ship Combat Guide - Voidship Upgrades

First things first: upgrade your hull as much as possible whenever you are upgrading Components. It should be your sole focus until it’s maxed out!

Once that’s done, you should select specific Upgrades in a certain order. These can be unlocked as your ship levels up, so the recommended order is just to get the most important ones possible right away.

The most important Voidship upgrades

Now, these are the key upgrades to get and the recommended order:

  1. Swing Run – Allows you to offset the ship’s poor maneuverability by allowing you to perform U-turns.
  2. Torpedo Control – Allows you to control the nearest torpedo salvo, which makes it easier to lead them towards enemy ships.
  3. Reinforce Shields – Can be used to boost a specific shield sector, greatly increasing its damage negation.
  4. Warp Wave – This can be used to turn around enemy ships, making them easier to deal with. It also deals damage based on how damaged the ship’s hull is.
  5. New Heading – Drastically improves the ship’s maneuverability, allowing it to turn at 90 degrees instead of 45.
  6. Shallow Jump – Can be used to make your Voidship warp 5 cells ahead, greatly aiding in mobility.

Get these upgrades and keep some vital tricks in mind and you’ll have no trouble dealing with any space battles in the game!
