If you’re ready to take on King Chimaerus inThrone & Liberty, one of the more challenging bosses in your dungeon raid, you’re in the right place. This guide will break down the mechanics of the fight, provide key strategies, and offer advice for healers and random team members to help you take down this boss in Throne & Liberty!
King Chimaerus Boss Mechanics & Team Work
Whether you’re running with a random team or a coordinated group, understanding the Chimaerus boss mechanics is crucial to winning. This fight is all about positioning, timing, and, most importantly, teamwork!
Key Mechanics: Staying in the Zone
When fighting King Chimaerus, one of the most important things is staying in Zone A2, which is the boss’s primary combat area. While you’re here, you should deal damage as you normally would—smash all your buttons, focus on your abilities, and keep a steady output of damage.
However, you’ll need to stay alert for when you get highlighted. When this happens, you’ll see a visual cue indicating that you’ve been targeted by the boss for a massive attack.
Dodging AOE Fireballs: Move to Safety
When King Chimaerus prepares to unleash his AOE Fireball attacks, you’ll need to quickly move out of Zone A2. Head towards Zone A1 or even farther to avoid being hit by these devastating attacks. It’s important to act fast once you’re targeted—don’t stay in the zone, or you’ll get hit hard.
For example, in one of my runs, a team member got highlighted but didn’t move quickly enough, and they ended up taking significant damage. Luckily, I absorbed some of it and kept us in the fight. This is why communication and quick reactions are essential.
The Importance of Teamwork
The success of this fight heavily relies on teamwork. Whenever King Chimaerus targets someone for his AOE attacks, the targeted player needs to run out of the zone immediately to avoid taking massive damage. If everyone does their part, you’ll be able to avoid unnecessary casualties.
In one run, I noticed that a teammate didn’t react fast enough to the highlight and ended up taking unnecessary damage. This could have been avoided with better communication and awareness.
Handling AOE Damage and Waterfalls
When the entire area lights up with AOE damage, it’s a signal that King Chimaerus is about to unleash a powerful area-wide attack. During this phase, you’ll want to run and grapple to avoid the full brunt of the damage. Once the waterfall mechanic triggers, you need to release the water onto the boss to weaken him.
As soon as the water hits, heal your team and get back into the fight. This cycle repeats, so stay vigilant, and make sure everyone is ready to act when needed.
Managing the Highlights and Damage Output
One of the biggest challenges in the fight is managing who gets highlighted. If you or someone else gets highlighted and doesn’t move in time, it can wipe out the whole team. In my case, I got unlucky during one run because I was too focused on healing everyone else and didn’t notice I had been highlighted. I ended up taking a massive hit.
Even if someone goes down, don’t panic. Keep working as a team, and make sure to rotate the responsibilities of soaking up fireballs and damage. It’s all about surviving long enough to take the boss down.
Dealing with Setbacks: Keep Going
Sometimes, things don’t go as planned. In one of my runs, we almost killed the boss but just couldn’t finish him off in time. The entire team was wiped out, except for one player. But that’s how it goes—you’ll have moments where things fall apart, but it’s crucial to stay focused and try again.
You may also need to pause, regroup, or even change teams. I had to pause one of my videos and find a better team after a particularly tough run. That’s all part of the learning process.
Final Phase: Taking Down King Chimaerus
As you approach the final phase of the fight, things will intensify. Keep an eye on health bars and the highlight mechanics, and be ready to react to the boss’s final barrage of attacks. Stay in Zone A2 for damage, and when the fireballs or AOE attacks come, move swiftly to Zone A1 or farther to dodge.
In one of my runs, we almost got the boss down to 1%, but he managed to one-shot me before I could finish the fight. These things happen, but with practice, you’ll eventually get the victory.
Tips for Success
Communicate with your team: Make sure everyone knows what to do when they get highlighted.
Rotate damage responsibilities: If someone gets targeted by the boss, they need to run while others handle damage output.
Pay attention to the waterfall phase: Grapple when needed and release the water to weaken the boss.
Keep healing and buffing: As a healer, your job is crucial to keeping the team alive. Stay focused on health bars.
Remember, Practice Makes Perfect!
Defeating King Chimaerus isn’t easy, but you can conquer this boss with the right strategy, teamwork, and communication. Keep practicing, and don’t get discouraged by setbacks. Once you get the mechanics down, the fight becomes much more manageable.
