Salt is one of those resources in Subnautica 2 that does not seem important until suddenly it is blocking your entire progression. You need it to craft Power Cells, which power the Tadpole submarine, and without the Tadpole your exploration range is severely limited. The problem is that it does not spawn anywhere near your starting Lifepod, so a lot of players end up stuck searching the immediate area with no luck.

It shows up as small pale pink or white crystals on the ocean floor. Small nodes can be picked up by hand while larger deposits need the Sonic Resonator to break open. In this guide, I will cover the best locations to find it early on so you are not swimming around aimlessly trying to figure out where to look.

Where to Find Salt

From your Lifepod, head straight southeast for around 250 meters. You can use the in-game radar to keep yourself pointed in the right direction as you swim. Once you have covered that distance, you will come across a large stone pillar extending out of the water. It is hard to miss once you are in the right area.

At the base of that pillar is a cave entrance. Head inside and you will find Salt deposits without too much trouble. The cave can be a bit dark so bring a torch with you to make spotting the pale pink crystals on the cave floor a lot easier.

Locating More Salt

Once you have a base set up, the Scanner Station is the easiest way to track down Salt without any guesswork. To build one, open the “Interior Facilities” tab in your Habitat Builder and look for the Scanner Station under the “Habitat System” category. It costs 1 System Chip, 1 Wiring Kit, and 3 Titanium to construct.

Once you place it inside your base, interact with it and a search menu will open up. From there you can select Salt or any other mineral you need. It will scan a 300 meter radius around your base and highlight every nearby deposit. It is well worth building as soon as you have the materials for it.

That’s It

The cave near the stone pillar southeast of the Lifepod is the most reliable early spot to farm Salt. Once your base is up the Scanner Station makes finding more a lot easier. Both methods combined should keep you well stocked throughout the early game.
