Getting your Assault Class to the max level isn’t enough on its own to succeed in max difficulty that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has to offer, having the right build is also important.

Picking the right Perks to make the most out of the Assault’s inherent strengths is key. Since its biggest strengths are high mobility and smacking things around with a hammer, it’s a fairly easy class to build!

In this guide, we’ll give you our recommended build for a max level Assault Class character ready to dive into Operation Mode’s max difficulty.

Max Level Assault Class Build Guide (Max Difficulty)

Class Perks

Class Perk | Space Marine 2 - Max Level Assault Class Build Guide (Max Difficulty)
  • Core
    • Armour Reinforcement – Non-Finisher Gun Strikes also restore Armour
    • Auxiliary Arsenal – Secondary Weapon’s Damage increases by 15%
    • Knowledge of the Enemy – Melee Damage increases by 15% against Majoris or Extremis level enemies
  • Team
    • Proven Efficiency – All Squad Members deal 50% more Gun Strike damage
  • Gear
    • Hammer of Wrath – After a Ground Pound, you do not lose control upon taking Heavy Hits and you cannot be knocked back for 10 seconds
    • Zealous Blow – A Ground Pound kill restores Jump Pack’s Charge by 10%
    • Pride in Duty – After a Finisher, Ground Pound deals 25% more Damage for 10 seconds
  • Signature
    • Ample Ammunition – Any use of Jump Pack reloads the equipped Ranged Weapon

This selection of Perks is primarily aimed toward making the most out of your Secondary Weapon since it’s the only ranged option you will have. You’ll maximize its damage and also get basically infinite ammo thanks to Ample Ammunition!

At the same time, these Perks will maximize your survivability as much as possible. Armour Reinforcement is one of the key Perks for this when playing on max difficulty, as you’ll be able to regain Armour even when a Gun Strike doesn’t kill an enemy.

Additionally, Hammer of Wrath and Zealous Blow will be vital for your game plan. They will allow you to do consecutive Ground Pounds into groups of enemies. If any of the enemies survive your wrath but are left weakened, you’ll be able to Execute them without any interruptions.

All in all, these Perks will make sure that you can stay on the offensive with constant Ground Pounds, while also ensuring that you have a decent Secondary Weapon for versatility.

Secondary Weapon

Secondary Weapon | Space Marine 2 - Max Level Assault Class Build Guide (Max Difficulty)

For your Secondary Weapon in this max level Assault Class build, you’ll want to pick the Ophelian Liberation – Alpha if you wish to tackle max difficulty in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. This Heavy Bolt Pistol has the largest ammo capacity in the game, which makes it the most reliable during hectic fights.

Alternatively, though, you can pick the Gathalamor Crusade. It has less ammo capacity, but it makes up for it with better accuracy. It’s a perfect choice if you personally feel like you don’t need the deep mags that the Ophelian Liberation – Alpha offers.

Secondary Weapon Selection

Either way, here’s the Perk selection we recommend for your Secondary Weapon. From the left side of the Perk tree to the right side:

  • Standard
    • Great Might – Damage increases by 10% against Terminus enemies
  • Master-Crafted
    • Death Strike – After killing a Majoris level or higher enemy with a Melee Weapon, you deal 25% more Damage for 5 seconds
    • Close Combat – Enemies at a distance of no more than 15 metres take 10% more Damage
    • Perpetual Precision – Maximum Spread decreases by 10%
  • Artificer
    • Gun Strike Reload – After a Gun Strike, the equipped Weapon instantly reloads
    • Head Hunter x2 – Headshots deal 10% more Damage
    • Extended Magazine – Magazine Size increases by 15% of the maximum
  • Relic
    • Adamant Hunter – When your Health is below 30%, Headshots deal 25% more Damage

These Perks work best with the Assault Class as they primarily focus on making your Heavy Bolt Pistol better synergize with your melee-focused abilities. It also notably improves your Gun Strikes, which you’ll want to use often to maintain your Armour in the max difficulty.

Melee Weapon

Melee Weapon | Space Marine 2 - Max Level Assault Class Build Guide (Max Difficulty)

Here we are, the main ingredient of the Assault Class. While every Melee Weapon is viable for a max level Assault Class build in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, we’ll be picking the Thunder Hammer. It might be a tad sluggish at times, but its wide sweeps and high damage make it perfect for clearing groups quickly.

As for which Thunder Hammer to pick, we recommend either the Ophelian Liberation – Alpha or Ophelian Liberation – Beta. The Alpha has better Cleaving Potential but has a tighter Parry window, while the Beta makes it easier to pull off Parries. Parrying is pretty important as an Assault Class player, so we don’t recommend the Gamma as it can only block attacks.

Melee Weapon Selection

With all that said, here’s our Perk selection for the Melee Weapon. Just like before, this list is ordered from left to right in the Perk Tree:

  • Standard
    • Perpetual Strength – Melee Damage increases by 5%
  • Master-Crafted
    • Fast Preparation – Aftershock preparation time is reduced by 30%
    • Perpetual Strength x2
    • Shattering Impact – Ground Slam area-of-effect radius increases by 50%
  • Artificer
    • Seismic Chain After performing a Ground Slam, hold the attack button to perform an additional Ground Slam
  • Perpetual Strength
    • Armoured Strength – When you have full Armour, Melee Damage increases by 10%
    • Tyranid Slayer – Melee Damage against Tyranid enemies increases by 10%
    • Chaos Slayer – Melee Damage against Chaos enemies increases by 10%
    • Hard Target – When performing a Light Combo, you take 15% less Ranged Damage

The Perk selection focuses primarily on general Melee Damage buffs, guaranteeing consistent damage. We’re foregoing any Relic-tier Perks currently as they don’t feel as useful as having an extra Perpetual Strength Perk.

But well, that’s the end of our build guide for a max level Assault Class in Space Marine 2! You should now be ready to tackle max difficulty.
