15 articlesIn Silent Hill f, the Scarecrow Field Puzzle is one of the more challenging and confusing puzzles, as it’s not immediately obvious what you’re meant to do. You’ll find it in the rice field south of Rinko’s house in Ebisugaoka. Once you enter, a vast rice field blanketed in fog stretches out before you. A note on a hay bale will clue you in: the scarecrows know the way out. Your task is to remove the correct nail from a scarecrow. Once you do, it will point in a direction that leads to the next stage of the puzzle, and eventually, an exit.
Be careful: removing nails from the wrong scarecrows will make them hostile. The nail is usually somewhere between the neck and waist, so keep your eyes open.
Pro tips:
- Every correct scarecrow is female. When in doubt, pick a girl.
- Some scarecrows will attack you along the way. It’s best to take them down immediately, as they won’t stop chasing you.

Locate the female scarecrow with no weapon in her hands.

Spot the female scarecrow bending backward with a golden bird pinned to her jacket.

Who are you? Tell me truly, you two aren’t anything more than friends, right? I’ve always been watching when you weren’t looking, you know.
Identify the short-haired female scarecrow with one hand pointing left and the other pointing to a long-haired scarecrow.

Approach the smiling, sickle-wielding female scarecrow with her head tilted backward on the left side. Removing her nail will give you a flash card: “It’s okay. You don’t have to be afraid anymore.”
Scarecrow n°2:
Can you even imagine how I feel? What’s it like to have been deceived by you for so long?
Select the female scarecrow stabbed in the back, looking down. Removing her nail will give you a flash card: “That’s what I said to you when I saw you so scared.”
Scarecrow n°3:
Can you even imagine how I feel? He never once looked at me the way he looked at you. Not once.
Target the sullen-faced female scarecrow with no weapons, looking backward, with a nail in her belly button on the left side. Removing her nail will give you a flash card: “I wonder why I called you over.”
Scarecrow n°4:
Can you even imagine how I feel? You’ve always been such an eyesore.
Pick the sullen-faced female scarecrow with arms outstretched, looking right on the right side. Removing her nail will give you a flash card: “I could’ve just lied to you. Told you to go any which way.”
Scarecrow n°5:
Can you even imagine how I feel? You hurt me, and even hurt him, too. Do you know how it feels to force a smile when I’m staring at that disgusting face of yours?!
Remove the nail from the female scarecrow with a sickle in her back, arms outstretched, looking down. You’ll get the same flash card as above.

Scarecrow n°1:
It’s your funeral today. I think I’ll give you a standing ovation.
Examine the female scarecrow with her head twisted upside down. Removing her nail will reveal an article about Ebisugaoka.
Scarecrow n°2:
It’s your funeral today. Good riddance. It feels as though I finally got this painful burden off my chest.
Check the female scarecrow with arms outstretched, looking down. Removing her nail will reveal another article.
Scarecrow n°3:
It’s your funeral today. You hurt him, and now you’re leaving him behind. I hope you suffer for what you’ve done.
Inspect another female scarecrow with her head twisted upside down. Removing her nail will give you another revealing article.
Scarecrow n°4:
It’s your funeral today. You were such a thorn in my side. Always getting between me and him.
Notice the smiling female scarecrow, head tilted backward, looking right. Removing her nail will reveal an article.
Scarecrow n°5:
It’s your funeral today. Goodbye, and don’t ever show your face again. Go do your own thing, just like you always have.
Follow the series of scarecrows lying on the ground, each pointing to the next, leading to a lone standing female scarecrow.
Finally, remove the nail from the female scarecrow with arms outstretched, looking down, to receive a final revealing article about Ebisugaoka.
Once you complete the puzzle, you can proceed to Rinko’s house, where more dangers await. And if you manage to choose correctly every time, you’ll earn the Acupuncture Specialist achievement in Silent Hill f!
