Portal Revolution: Chapter 4 – Excursion Funnel Flings Solution

Portal Revolution‘s puzzles are quite elaborate and tricky. In Chapter 4’s Excursion Funnel Flings area, there’s a possibility that you get stuck through no fault of your own.

That is because this area contains a glitch in the game where the physics can’t get the ball up to the platform. We’ll run you through all the puzzles involved in chapter 4 including a fix for the ball glitch.

In this short guide, we’ll tackle how you can solve the Excursion Funnel Flings puzzle, find a fix for the glitch, and even get an achievement.

Chapter 4 Excursion Funnel Flings Solution

The Excursion Funnel Flings starts in a room with two pipes dropping two different balls. The closest one to the entrance drops the metallic ball while the other one drops a water ball that splashes water on impact. 

Your goal is to get the metallic ball on the socket located on the other side of the room (the second floor to the right of the entrance) including yourself. 

There’s also an achievement called Bullseye where you need to land the metallic ball exactly on the socket as it bounces off the ground. There are a ton of achievements available in the game.

However, let’s not get ahead of ourselves and solve the room first. 

Getting the Water Ball

Look for the red button on the floor. Stepping on this will activate the magnetic pillars where you can manipulate it with your portals. You can also place the metallic ball here to activate it without having to step on the button. This will be needed later on.

Step on the red button and activate the magnetic pillars. Shoot one portal on the white checkered tile next to the button and shoot the other portal on the other white wall as seen in the image.

The portal on the wall will grab the water ball until it reaches the other checkered tile on your left (if you are facing the wall). 

Once the ball is on the checkered tile, shoot your second portal on the inclined panel. Once you have placed this portal, step away from the button and let the water ball splash on the ground as seen in the images above.

Getting the Metallic Ball

Now it is time to get the metallic ball. Leave the first portal on the checkered tile and use the second portal to grab the metallic ball. Step on the red button again to activate the magnetic pillars. There’s a white wall beneath the pipe from where the metallic ball is falling. You can shoot your portal here to grab the ball. 

Once the metallic ball is floating above the checkered tile, shoot your second portal below the inclined panel and step away from the red button. Wait for the ball to roll towards you. Grab it and place it on the red button. 

How to Land on the Second Platform

Now this is the tricky part. Shoot your second portal on the white wall where you took the water ball. Go to the checkered tile and lift yourself up.

Once you are flying up look at the water ball and the inclined panel. Shoot your second portal on the inclined panel so that the water ball lands exactly on the red button with the metallic ball. 

This will remove the ball on the button and let you freefall down to the portal, slinging you to the first water puddle you made and bounce to the second floor of the room.

How to Get the Metallic Ball Into the Socket

From here, you’ll see a socket, where the ball needs to land, and a red button. Place your first portal directly under the pipe from which the metallic ball is falling. Press the red button to reset the ball and it’ll fall on the first portal you placed.

Keep your second portal on the inclined wall and it’ll catapult the metallic ball the same way you propelled yourself to this platform. If the ball falls short, this is a physics glitch in the game where you need to fix it from the developer mode.

How to Fix the Physics Glitch

Go to the menu and press options. Turn Developer Mode to enabled. Press the ` key to open the console and type “_restart”. Do the same thing again and it should work. 

For the Bullseye achievement, this method should already give you the achievement
