You might come across the Exceptional Idol, Elegant Idol, and Exquisite Idol during Act 3 in Path of Exile 2 and assume that they’re part of a puzzle.

For one, these idols are labeled as quest items and seem to have parts of a sentence. Collecting all 3 will let you reveal the full sentence, seemingly completing the puzzle. However, there’s actually not much you can do with these idols.

Read on and we’ll tell you everything there is to know about the Exceptional Idol, Elegant Idol, and Exquisite Idol and what to do with them!

Path of Exile 2: Exceptional Idol, Elegant Idol, Exquisite Idol Puzzle Guide

The Exceptional Idol, Elegant Idol, and Exquisite Idol can all be found during Act 3 in Path of Exile 2. They spawn randomly in the Aggorat area and they’re almost always protected by Elite enemies. To grab the idols, you just need to defeat the foes.

You can also find Golden Idols like this in the Utzaal area. They’re pretty much identical to the Exceptional Idols in function.

Oswald Buys the Idols

Despite what you might first assume, these idols aren’t actually part of a puzzle or quest. You’re simply meant to sell them to Oswald at the Ziggurat Encampment. He’ll pay the following prices for each idol:

  • Exquisite Idol / Golden Idol – 500 Gold
  • Elegant Idol / Grand Idol – 1000 Gold
  • Exceptional Idol / Glorious Idol – 1500 Gold

If you’re specifically planning to hunt down these idols, we advise against it. Frankly, the amount of Gold you get is simply not worth the effort at this point in the game. It’s worth selling them to Oswald if you find them randomly while exploring, sure, but not worth going out of your way for.

Description Sentences | Path of Exile 2: Exceptional Idol, Elegant Idol, Exquisite Idol Puzzle Guide

Aside from selling them, you might also notice that they can form sentences based on their description. These aren’t very useful or meaningful, though. Nonetheless, here’s the full sentences if you’re curious:

  • Exceptional Idols – Brilliant idols of immense value prized for their rarity and exquisite craftsmanship.
  • Golden Idols – Golden treasure lies forgotten in the depths of an ancient ruin rewarding any bold enough to seek it.

That’s all there is to know about the Exceptional Idol, Elegant Idol, and Exquisite Idol. Turns out they’re just there for an extra bit of Gold… for something a bit more meaningful, check out our guide on what to do with the Sacrificial Heart you can also find during Act 3!
