After all, you don’t want to venture into the dark when you’re low on fuel! That just means it will run out, and then you’ll be in the darkness without any light source. It’s not like the game’s super easy, either…
So, in this quick guide, I’ll tell you how to easily refill your Oil Lamp.
How to Refill the Oil Lamp
To refill the Oil Lamp, you’ll first need to get some Animal Fat. You can get this as a drop from animals, most commonly from Boars and Sows. Both of these animals are plentiful on the starting island.

Windrose: Ancient Fire Sanctuary Puzzle Solution & All ChestsApr 20, 2026Do note, Animal Fat does not seem to be a guaranteed drop. However, it has an extremely high drop rate from Boars in particular. So, they’re your best for amassing this resource.
Once you have at least 3 Animal Fat, go to any Workbench and switch over to the Refill/Repair tab. In there, look for the Oil Lamp you wish to refill and select it, then Confirm.
Now, as of this writing, it seems that the Oil Lamp always requires 3 Animal Fat to refill. It doesn’t matter if it’s at 99% or 0%, it’s always 3!
This means that delaying the refill is optimal if you want to make the most out of the Animal Fat you’ve collected. So, keep that in mind. Just don’t put it off for too long, or you might end up running out of oil when you need it most.
Lastly, if you still don’t have an Oil Lamp, I recommend checking the Smuggler’s Cache in the middle of the starting island. I’ve marked it on the map above for you.
This cache seems to have a guaranteed Oil Lamp spawn in one of its chests. It’s the same spot where you can get a Fast Travel Bell.
