Windrose can be pretty tough in the early game, as you try to get your bearings with everything the game has on offer, but having the best build possible can help ease some woes.
The combat in Windrose is definitely one of the biggest pain points in the early game, after all. Who hasn’t gotten one-shot by a Boar when starting out? This is why a good build is so important!
In this guide, I’ll give you recommendations to make your early game build as strong as possible.
Equipment Selection

Starting things off with weapons, I highly recommend focusing on a combination of Pistols and Rapiers. The main reason for this being that, aside from both being quite good, they also both scale off of Precision.
What’s more, getting used to how the Pistol and Rapier plays can pay off if you get lucky! Manage to find Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol and the Rapier of a Thousand Cuts and you’re all set. Of course, though, that requires luck since they are random drops…
Regardless, even if you don’t find these unique weapons, the regular variants are pretty great. The best one is the Sturdy Rapier, which increases the Parry (perfect block) window pretty noticeably.
When it comes to your clothing, the entire Flibustier’s Attire set is your best bet. It’s easy to get, since you can craft it yourself, too!
For this set, having 2 pieces reduces your attacks’ Stamina consumption by 20%. Having all 4 pieces increases one-handed weapon Damage by 15%. This buff should apply to both your Pistol and Rapier.
For accessories, though, you can just use whichever best ones you find. Anything that boosts your Endurance, Precision, and Damage should work wonders for this build.
Stats and Talents

Starting off with your Stats, your selection here is quite simple. As I mentioned before, I recommended both Pistol and Rapier as they scale off of Precision. As such, level up Precision as much as you can for more damage output.
Do note, however, that there seems to be a softcap. That means you’ll get drastically reduced effectiveness from leveling up your Damage stat (Precision, in this case) beyond 20. It’s best to put points elsewhere once you reach 20 Precision.
For other Stats, you’ll want to level up Vitality (Health) and Endurance (Stamina). Which one you focus on more depends on your playstyle, however. But I’d recommend Vitality, as this build shouldn’t struggle too much with lack of Stamina.

As for Talents, I recommend the following picks:
- Marathon Runner – Gives you more Stamina.
- Outnumbered – Increases your damage when fighting two or more enemies.
- Stout Frame – Gives you a substantial amount of Health.
This Talent selection should greatly improve your survivability and damage output in most combat scenarios. Pretty solid overall!
So, there you have it. Those are my recommendations for the best early game build possible in Windrose. Thankfully, builds in this game are quite simple, especially early on!
