It is your next destination after you’re done exploring the Coastal Jungle. It’s full of new materials for you to find, but also new threats! Overcome those threats, though, and you’ll become stronger and richer.
In this quick guide, I’ll tell you everything you need to get to the Foothills.
How and Where to Find the Foothills Biome Islands
First of all, I highly recommend that you first defeat Thomas Richards, the Coastal Jungle Threat. This is part of the “Revenge is Best Served Cold” main quest. We have a detailed guide on how to deal with him, as well.

Windrose: Best Weapons for Early GameApr 19, 2026The main reason for defeating him is that doing so unlocks the Discoveries for the Foothills region. Those Discoveries allow you to actually use the unique materials you find in the region, such as Foothills Iron Ore.
That said, it’s not absolutely mandatory to defeat Thomas Richards first. It’s just ideal, as there isn’t much of a point to going to the Foothills without the associated Discoveries being available.
Nonetheless, if you do follow my advice, defeating Thomas Richards will also lead to the “Needle in a Haystack” main quest. Following that quest will take you to one of the many Foothills islands.
Once you do reach the Foothills island as part of the quest, you will be surrounded by other Foothills islands. The game’s procedural generation puts islands of the same biome close together.
If you did not defeat Thomas Richards, you’ll instead just need to sail yourself. Pick one direction to sail in and just keep going straight until you spot a Foothills island.
Sadly, I can not tell you their exact location! As I mentioned before, the game has a procedurally-generated world. Different players will find the Foothills islands in different areas.
The only thing that’s true is that the Foothills are pretty far from the starting island. That island is mostly surrounded by Coastal Jungle. So, that’s why I said to just sail off in one direction until you get lucky.
So, there you have it! That’s how to get to the Foothills in Windrose. I do wish I could provide more exact directions, but the game’s randomized world makes it unique for everyone. Still, I hope this helped!
