Path of Exile 2 has been making waves recently, to the point where newcomers to the genre itself are coming in and wondering what all the fuss is about. Well, if you are among those players, you might have been a bit confused by how certain items are labeled as “unidentified” and cannot be used. In this guide, we will share with you a tip that can help you identify them for free and otherwise.
How to Identify Unidentified Items
As you probably already know, you usually have to use a scroll of wisdom to identify items that need it. However, early on, you might still be struggling to keep up with all the new gear due to your limited supplies.
Scrolls of wisdom are fairly common, but every now and then, the thought that you are wasting them on bad items might cross your mind. Luckily, there is actually a way to do this for free.
After finishing your first few quests in act one, you will eventually be introduced to a character known only as The Hooded One. They can be found in hub areas, and among their services is to identify items for free.
All you need to do is talk to them and select the “Identify Items” option. By doing this, every piece of unidentified equipment in your inventory will now be identified! Check the hotkey beside the option as well so that you can do it without having to navigate through the menu.
For PC players using a keyboard, you can simply CTRL + click on The Hooded One to identify your items. Either way, the process is completely free and will save you a lot of scrolls further down the line.
That really is all there is to it. The Hooded One is available to do this service for you in hub areas, though you might still want to keep some scrolls of wisdom around with you in case you really want to check out a new item out in the field. Maybe you might find something worth linking in chat, who knows?
Franco is a writer and avid gamer who spends a lot of his free time looking for the next obscure indie roguelike to add to his collection. If he’s not busy working or writing on his personal blog, there’s also a non-zero chance that you stumble into him in pretty much any multiplayer game that has SEA or OCE servers. He’s pretty good at anything unless it’s a fighting game, in which case you’d probably body him.
