You can use Hardwood to make more advanced tools and weapons. Plus, it’s also used to make Timber, which is a key material required for even stronger ship parts. It’s quite useful, so you’ll want to hoard it as soon as possible!
In this quick guide, I’ll tell you everything you need to get Hardwood.
How and Where to Get Hardwood
First things first, you’ll need to defeat Thomas Richards, the Coastal Junge Threat. Doing so will allow you to unlock Discoveries for the Foothills biome.

However, you won’t be able to learn any new schematics from gathering resources there until you defeat him. You’d have no use for Hardwood, then!
Additionally, you should have a Copper Axe by now, too. You probably do have it if you’re far enough to defeat the Coastal Jungle Threat! But, if you need help with that, check out our Copper Tools guide.
With all of that prep work dealt with, you just need to sail until you find any Foothills biome island. Sadly, I can’t tell you their exact locations due to the game’s procedural generation. However, they’re generally further away from the starting island than Coastal Jungle islands.
Once you manage to reach a Foothills island, look for Divi-Divi trees or their stumps. They look like the one shown above, for reference. They’re extremely common in all Foothills islands.
When you spot one of those trees, just chop it down with your Copper Axe or better! You’ll get some Hardwood, as well as regular Wood and Tree Bark.
So, there you have it! That’s all you need to do to get Hardwood in Windrose, quick and easy. You can now use this Hardwood to make some more advanced tools and crafting resources, such as Timber.
