Genshin Impact: Complete Kachina Guide | Pre-Release Analysis

Kachina is one of the upcoming Natlan characters for Genshin Impact 5.0, so we thought she deserved her own pre-release analysis as well.

Kachina is a 4-Star Geo character that mostly plays a supportive role. She can place down her spinning top drill, Turbo Twirly, to deal Geo damage from off field. Outside of combat, she can ride it around to make exploration as smooth as possible.

Talents

Skills

• Normal Attack: Cragbiter
  • Grounded – Perform up to 4 thrusting spear attacks.
  • Charged – Charge up and consume stamina to perform a thrusting dash dealing damage to enemies in the way.
  • Plunging – Fall while plunging the spear into the ground, dealing damage to enemies in the way and causing a small AoE shockwave when landing.
• Elemental Skill: Go, Go, Turbo Twirly! – Press to summon Kachina’s Turbo Twirly onto the field, or hold to summon and enter Turbo Twirly at the same time. Either way, Kachina will gain 60 Nightsoul Points and enter her Nightsoul’s Blessing mode.
  • When Turbo Twirly is on the field, you can press the Elemental Skill again to either mount or dismount it again.
  • When dismounted, Turbo Twirly will stay in place and slam the ground at set intervals. Each slam deals AoE Geo DMG based on Kachina’s DEF. Also, Turbo Twirly is considered a Geo Construct when dismounted.
  • When mounted, Kachina can ride Turbo Twirly to move around faster. Using Normal Attacks will make Kachina slam Turbo Twirly to deal AoE Geo DMG based on Kachina’s DEF.
  • All of Turbo Twirly’s slams consume Nightsoul Points, regardless of whether Kachina is riding it or not. Also, Turbo Twirly disappears once Kachina runs out of Nightsoul Points.
• Elemental Burst: Time to Get Serious!
  • Kachina slams the ground dealing AoE Geo DMG based on her DEF to a wide area. This also summons a Turbo Drill Field around Kachina, which boosts Turbo Twirly’s AoE range and Movement Speed.
  • If Turbo Twirly is already on the field, using the Elemental Burst will reposition it next to Kachina.

Passives (Ascension Talents)

• Mountain Echoes – When nearby party members trigger a Nightsoul Burst, Kachina’s Geo DMG Bonus increases by 20% for 12 seconds.
• The Weight of Stone – Turbo Twirly’s DMG is increased by 20% of Kachina’s DEF.
• Boon of Crystal Flame – Kachina will recover 20 Stamina when interacting with harvestable items while exploring areas with Phlogiston Mechanics in Natlan. Also, Kachina will mark the location of nearby resources unique to Natlan on your mini-map.
• Night Realm’s Gift: Heart of Unity – Allows Kachina to use Phlogiston to maintain her Nightsoul’s Blessing mode after she uses up all Nightsoul Points.
  • You can also use Nightsoul Transmission: Kachina while in Phlogiston-enabled areas in Natlan. To trigger it, switch from an active character when using movement mechanics such as sprinting or swimming to Kachina. Kachina will automatically enter Nightsoul’s Blessing, ride Turbo Twirly, and gain 30 Nightsoul Points. You can trigger this effect once every 10 seconds.
  • Additionally, Kachina will use 90% less Stamina when climbing with Turbo Twirly while in Natlan.

Constellations

• C1: Shards Are Gems Too – Kachina can absorb Elemental Shards created by Crystallize whenever she mounts or dismounts Turbo Twirly. If a party member picks up one of these shards, Kachina will recover 3 Energy. The Energy restoration effect can trigger once every 5 seconds.
• C2: Never Leave Home Without… Turbo Twirly – Kachina will regain 20 Nightsoul Points whenever she uses “Elemental Burst: Time to Get Serious!”. She will also enter Nightsoul’s Blessing and summon a Turbo Twirly if there’s not one already on the field when using her Elemental Burst.
• C3: Improved Stabilizer – Increases the Level of “Go, Go, Turbo Twirly!” by 3. Maximum upgrade level is 15.
• C4: More Foes, More Caution – Increases the active character’s DEF whenever there are enemies within the Turbo Drill Field created by “Elemental Burst: Time to Get Serious!”. The effect scales up with more enemies, as follows:
  • 1 enemy = +8% DEF,
  • 2 enemies = +12% DEF
  • 3 enemies = +16% DEF
  • 4 or more enemies = +20% DEF
• C5: All I’ve Collected Till Now – Increases the Level of “Time to Get Serious!” by 3. Maximum upgrade level is 15.
• C6: This Time, I’ve Gotta Win – Kachina will deal 200% of her DEF as AoE Geo DMG whenever the active character’s shield is replaced or destroyed by any means. This effect can trigger once every 5 seconds.

Overall, Kachina’s Constellations in Genshin Impact aren’t particularly amazing, based on our pre-release analysis. They do provide some pretty nice buffs, but they mostly rely on her personal damage which isn’t as useful for her overall playstyle. On the upside, this does mean you don’t need to try to get her to C6!

Recommended Gear & Stats

Considering that Kachina is most useful as a supportive buffer, her best Artifact set choice is the Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City. This Artifact set will allow Kachina to regain Energy whenever a Nightsoul Burst is triggered. It will also allow her to boost her entire party’s damage by up to 40% when triggering Elemental Reactions in Nightsoul’s Blessing mode.

For the record, Nightsoul Burst is one of the new mechanics tied to the Natlan characters in Genshin Impact. It triggers whenever a Natlan character deals Elemental Damage and is stronger when you have more Natlan party members.

Based on the fact that a lot of her kit scales off of DEF, Kachina’s best stats will be DEF and DEF% whenever possible. ATK and DMG% increases are also solid, but DEF seems to be her most important stat.

When it comes to weapons, it depends on what you really want to focus most on with Kachina. Based on our pre-release analysis, Kachina’s best weapons in Genshin Impact will be one of the following:

• Favonius Lance (Support) – Our top pick, as we feel that Kachina works best in a supportive role. It allows Kachina to use her Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst much more often, thanks to boosting her Energy gain. You’ll want to have Turbo Twirly out at all times, and this weapon will help you achieve that.
• Footprint of the Rainbow (Damage) – This new Natlan polearm synergizes extremely well with Kachina, as it will give her a DEF boost when using her Elemental Skill. It’s pretty much the best choice if you want to focus on her damage output!

Playstyle Breakdown

If you’ve been following along, based on our pre-release analysis we think that Kachina will shine mostly when played as a support in Genshin Impact. Making good use of the “Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City” Artifact set will let her buff her team’s damage by an impressive 40%, which also means she will rely heavily on Elemental Reactions.

That said, the 40% damage buff only applies to the same elements that trigger the reaction. As such, it’s best to have Kachina in dual-element teams, even if she’s the only Geo character on the team. Just make sure to trigger Crystallize with Kachina often and she’ll greatly bolster the whole party’s damage output!

On that note, it’s surprisingly easy to trigger Crystallize with Kachina as she can do it from the off-field. As long as her Turbo Twirly had a part in the Elemental Reaction, she’ll trigger her Artifact set’s buffs for her whole team. That makes her extremely efficient when you just tag her in, summon Turbo Twirly, and switch to your main DPS.

Another important thing to note, even if it’s not really related to her playstyle directly, is that Kachina will be given for free during the Natlan questline. You’ll get her as you progress through Archon Quest Chapter V: Act I “Flowers Resplendent on the Sun-Scorched Sojourn”. Considering how versatile she is for team-building, she’s a welcome addition to anyone’s roster!

Ultimately, Kachina is a fantastic support choice for a lot of teams in Genshin Impact even if she’s just a 4-star character, as our pre-release analysis shows.
