Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is an action-packed role-playing game with numerous minigames where you challenge NPCs to win cards. You’ll essentially get stronger with the more wins you accumulate under your belt.

You’ll need all the cards and strength you can master when you come up against some formidable opponents in the Queen’s Blood. That said, you may be wondering how exactly this card game works, which we’ll cover in the guide below.

Queen’s Blood Card Game Guide

Challenge players in towns

In your adventures through towns, you’ll come across NPC characters with icons above their heads. This character will want to challenge you to a card game called the Queen’s Blood.

Choosing Your Deck

Card deck in Final Fantasy 7

One of the first things you’ll need to do is choose a deck of cards, which you can edit if you want. You will only be able to play a game with a deck that contains 15 cards. Once you’ve decided on a deck, the minigame will begin.

Gameplay Mechanics

Layout of the board

On the board, you’ll notice two dragons placed on either side. Between the dragons are three rows with five spaces on them. Each player will draw 5 cards from their deck at the start of the game.

You will play your cards on the left side of the board, while your opponent will start on the right side.

Pawns on the board

At the beginning of the game, you will notice little icons on the board that kind of resemble pawns from a chess set. These pawns indicate where you can place your cards and the cost of the card you can place there.

Cost of the cards

On the cards, in the upper left corner, you will notice the same icon. These icons represent the cost of the card. So, if there are two pawns on the card, it means that you will need to find a spot on the board with two pawns.

Power rating of the card

On the top right-hand side of a card, there is a number icon. The number represents the power of the card and when placed on the board it will increase the overall total for the lane.

Action of the card

The middle square icon on the card represents the actions of the card. The white squares indicate the actual place of the card on the board and the yellow squares indicate where the card will spawn new pawns.

Another thing you can do is place a card on a square adjacent to a square that has an enemy pawn on it. If the card with an adjacent square as one of its moves, you can replace your pawn with the enemy’s pawn.

Card Abilities

Special abilities

Some cards also have abilities, these are marked with red squares on the card. When you place these cards on the red square of another card it grants that card its ability.

Tallying up the points

When there are no more empty spaces on the board, the game is considered over. Whichever player has a higher score for a row will win that row and the scores are added to a player’s total. But here’s a catch, the loser’s score will be erased.

Don't focus on one row

That said, you can’t focus your entire strategy on winning one row. If your opponent wins the first two rows and their combined total points are more than your single-row points, you lose. So it doesn’t pay to focus on one row, you have to try and more points in two of the rows.

The winner of the entire board game will be the player who has the highest score after adding up all the rows. Should you win, then you will receive a card from your opponent.

Have the most points in each row and you’ll beat the Queen’s Blood!
