The Mines are dangerous but very rewarding.

One of your first goals as you expand your town in Fields of Mistria will be to unlock The Mines, starting with its first section.

The Mines are currently divided into a few sections, with Upper Mines being the first. Each one of them have different things for you to find, but also dangers to face. If you can face these dangers head-on, though, you’ll be well rewarded!

But first, you’ll need to unlock The Mines to begin with… which is exactly what we’ll help you with in this guide!

How to Unlock The Mines First Section – Upper Mines

Stone Star Town Rank

You’ll only be able to unlock the first Mines section of the game once your town reaches Stone Star Rank and you’ve passed day 6 of Spring. That means you’ll need to increase your Town’s Renown to Level 10, making it the first Town Rank increase you’ll get in the game.

Requests

The best way to increase Renown is to simply complete various requests across Mistria. You should get a randomized list of requests every in-game day, with most of them simply requiring you to forage or craft items. Just make sure to check the Request Board by the General Store in Mistria every day.

You can also get some Renown by completing quests directly given to you by the various named NPCs across town. Plus, that will increase your relationship with them as well! Just talk to the NPCs and they will give you these quests when they see fit.

Museum

Additionally, you can get Renown by donating to the Museum and using the Shipping Bin to ship items. It’s also required to visit the Museum at some point to talk with Eiland to complete the “The State of the Mines” quest, which is just a short conversation.

We’ve covered the Museum in more detail in our ultimate beginner’s guide for Fields of Mistria, as well.

Unlocking the Mines quest

Once your town reaches Stone Star Rank and enough days pass, you should get mail with the “Unlocking the Mines” quest.

Now all that’s left is to go meet Errol and Eiland at the entrance to The Mines in The Narrows.

Upper Mines opened!

Watch the cutscene play out and you’ll finally unlock the first section of The Mines, known as the Upper Mines, for use in Fields of Mistria!

Unlocking the Second Section of The Mines – The Tide Caverns

Water Seal

Once you spend enough time exploring The Mines, you will reach Floor 20 and be blocked by a Water Seal. To unlock the seal and open up the second section, you’ll need to find 4 offerings and give them to the seal:

  • Stone Loach x1 – Found in the Upper Mines by fishing at any fishing spot.
  • Upper Mines Mushroom x1 – Big round brown mushrooms. They’re pretty rare but they can spawn anywhere in the Upper Mines.
  • Ruby x1 – Gemstones mined from rock nodes that have red gems protruding from them. Very common in the Upper Mines.
  • Lantern Moth x1 – An insect that doubles as a light source, found in the Upper Mines randomly. Fairly common and can be caught by using your Net.

Get all four of these items and give them to the stone tablet on Floor 20 of The Mines. The Water Seal will be broken, so you’ll unlock the next section of The Mines known as The Tide Caverns in Fields of Mistria.

Unlocking the Second Section of The Mines – Deep Earth

Earth Seal

Reach Floor 40 by going through the Tide Caverns and you’ll reach a second seal: the Earth Seal. Just like before, you’ll need to gather 4 different items and offer them to the tablet to break the seal:

  • Coral Mantis x1 – A pink/purple bug found roaming randomly in the Tide Caverns. Catch it with your Net.
  • Sapphire x1 – A gemstone which you can get by breaking down rocks with blue gems in the Tide Caverns.
  • Archerfish x1 – This is a medium-sized fish found in the Tide Caverns. It’s pretty rare, but you just have to keep fishing at any fishing spot until you get it.
  • Jade Dulse x1 – Some sort of aquatic weed which randomly spawns on the floor throughout the Tide Caverns. It seems to be extremely rare, however.

Offer all of these items to the stone tablet on Floor 40 and you’ll unlock the next section, Deep Earth. This is the final section of The Mines in Fields of Mistria as of this writing, but we wouldn’t be surprised if more sections were added with updates to the game during Early Access. There seems to be a Fire Seal on Floor 60, after all, but we can’t do anything about it yet.

That’s all you need to know to unlock The Mines and every section in Fields of Mistria. They might be somewhat dangerous, but they’re definitely rewarding to explore.

Venezuelan gamer cursed by being interested by most games, resulting in a ridiculous backlog he’ll never be able to conquer. Been gaming for over two decades now! Few things exemplify his wide variety in gaming tastes as the fact that he’s a big fan of both Souls games and the Atelier series at the same time. Also a big fan of Yakuza/Like a Dragon, Deadly Premonition, Zero Escape, and Dead Rising, among others. Considers Lost Judgment and Sekiro to both be masterpieces.
