Wait, isn’t he supposed to die? Not if you do something about it!

For those who have already purchased the deluxe edition of Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you already have advanced access to the game and are probably already going through the story as we speak. Now, historically speaking, Sun Jian meets his end following the Battle of Xiangyang, but certain Dynasty Warriors games allows you to save him from a rocky demise. Here is how you can do it in this latest installment of the popular musou game franchise!

How to Save Sun Jian

Before you get started, you might want to play on the easiest difficulty just to make this process a little less stressful, as you might fail due to factors outside of your control as you try to save Sun Jian. It will also make a particular fight much easier, albeit still being tough at the easiest setting.

Now, in order to save Sun Jian, you will have to act fast and make your way through the path highlighted in the map image below. For most encounters, you simply have to run past enemies in order to save as much time as possible.

As soon as the battle starts, follow the path indicated in the map and just run through the majority of enemies along the way. Eventually, you will reach a couple of lieutenants in your path, though you don’t need to beat all of them.

Pang Ji, who is guarding a gate, is one who you will need to take out first. Once he’s dead, get the gate open. After him, defeat Wang Can to claim an enemy base and get through the next gate blocking your path.

Once you get past the base, you will have to go through one last gate at the far west of the map, which is guarded by a generic general. Once you are past it, this is where things get difficult.

If you get here quickly, you will have to wait, as you cannot progress further until after a particularly tough fight. Once Sun Jian announces that he is advancing towards Huang Zu, a fog will appear in your spot.

This will lead to a fight with the phantom of Zhang Jiao. You will have to defeat him amidst an army of shadows. Focus on beating the phantom as quickly as possible, as he is incredibly spongy and will take a lot of effort to beat even at the easiest difficulty setting.

Throw everything you have at him because this is the only real roadblock in this entire process. Once the shadow has been defeated, you can proceed further to the south where Sun Jian is fighting Huang Zu. Get on your horse and rush as quickly as possible

Towards the end, you will eventually run into a shield wall commanded by Huang Zu and Kuai Liang. Do not bother fighting them, just find a way to bust through the shields and rush towards the end point highlighted with a yellow square in the map image shown earlier.

Waste no time running further south and you will eventually reach Sun Jian’s position, which will trigger a cutscene. Instead of getting killed, your character will push Sun Jian out of the way, saving his life from a boulder that would have crushed him if you followed the story as intended.

Once you get the “fate altered” notification, that means you have successfully saved him and have completely changed the outcome of the mission and potentially unlock some “what if?” scenarios. That is basically all you need to do, with the only issue being the overpowered shadow boss!

If he’s not busy working or writing on his personal blog, there’s also a non-zero chance that you stumble into him in pretty much any multiplayer game that has SEA or OCE servers. He’s pretty good at anything unless it’s a fighting game, in which case you’d probably body him.
