All in all, there are 9 different horses you can get in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. Collecting them all gives you more options, plus you get the “Eminent Equestrian” achievement.

Every horse in the game is different. They all have unique stats, growth, and abilities. Picking the right steed for you is as important as choosing the right weapon. The better your horse is, the more ground you can cover during each battle!

In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know to unlock every single horse in Dynasty Warrior: Origins.

How To Get All Horses | Dynasty Warriors: Origins

You unlock a large number of horses by increasing the Peace in specific regions. You can check the Peace level by looking at the sacred bird gauge on the minimap, as shown above. Since this will be required to get half of all the horses in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, we figured it deserved its own section first!

Each region’s Peace level increases as you complete battles within the region. Story battles, side quests, and skirmishes all contribute toward increasing the Peace.

Visit the region’s Waymark after increasing the Peace and you’ll get various rewards as gifts, which include most horses on this list.

That’s just the very basics of how the Peace system works, mind you. For a few more details, check out our previous article on how to get new horses.

Now, let’s go over how to get all horses in Dynasty Warriors: Horses as well as give you a quick overview of their stats and abilities.

Walnut

This is your first horse and you get it naturally through progressing the game’s story. As such, you don’t really need to do anything special to get it. Here are its stats:

  • Base Speed: 10
  • Endurance: 2
  • Level 5 – Boosts mounted charge impact damage by 50%.
  • Level 10 – Increases mounted stability by 50%.
  • Level 20 – Grants Bravery upon falling from your horse.

Maple

This is possibly the first horse you’ll get through the Peace system. You can get Maple from the Waymark in the You Province when you get the region to Peace Rank 1. Its stats and abilities aren’t anything special, though, but here they are:

  • Base Speed: 10
  • Endurance: 2
  • Level 5 – Increases mounted stability by 50%.
  • Level 10 – Boosts mounted charge impact damage by 50%.
  • Level 20 – Boosts recovery of rider strength when performing a mounted attack.

Chestnut

You can get Chestnut from the Liang Province’s Waymark once you get that region’s Peace Rank to 2. It boasts 3 Endurance, unlike Walnut and Maple, so it’s your first real upgrade. Here are all of this horse’s stats and abilities:

  • Base Speed: 10
  • Endurance: 3
  • Level 5 – Reduces arrow damage taken by 40%.
  • Level 10 – Boosts Defense by 20% when mounted.
  • Level 20 – Increases speed when near death.

Birch

The first Rank 2 horse you can get and also the only one in the game. You can get it from the Ji Province’s Waymark once you get the Peace Rank in that region to 2. Its stats and abilities are as follows:

  • Base Speed: 10
  • Endurance: 4
  • Level 5 – Increases mounted stability by 50%.
  • Level 10 – Extends mounted charge maximum distance by 20%.
  • Level 20 – Staggers nearby enemies when you summon your horse.

Mahogany

Stepping things up, this is the first Rank 3 horse you can get in the game. You can pick it up from the Waymark in the Jing Province once you get that region to Peace Rank 1. Here are the stats for this horse:

  • Base Speed: 10
  • Endurance: 4
  • Level 5 – Boosts mounted charge impact damage by 50%.
  • Level 10 – Reduces arrow damage taken by 40%.
  • Level 20 – Staggers nearby enemies when you land from a height.

Shadow Runner – Cao Cao’s Horse

Now, things are about to get a bit more complex. This is the first of all the special horses you can get in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. Unlike previous horses, this one requires you to complete a specific challenge to unlock. Peace Ranks are irrelevant here!

To get Shadow Runner, you will need to beat the “Escape from Wan Castle” mission on Ultimate Warrior difficulty while ensuring that you prevent the enemy’s stone barrage. You can do that by defeating Zhang Xian as quickly as possible during the mission.

Now, here are the stats for this special horse:

  • Base Speed: 11
  • Endurance: 4
  • Level 5 – Stops you from falling from your horse.
  • Level 10 – Staggers nearby enemies when you summon your horse.
  • Level 20 – Boosts Defense by 50% when mounted.

Storm Runner – Cao Cao’s Horse

Another one of Cao Cao’s beloved horses, Storm Runner also requires you to complete a special challenge.

This time, you need to complete the “Battle of Huarong Path” on Ultimate Warrior difficulty while ensuring that at least 7 allied officers survive. Pay close attention to requests for help from allies and save them if need be. The easiest way to clear this challenge is to be as quick as possible while completing the mission!

Here are the stats and abilities for this powerful steed:

  • Base Speed: 11
  • Endurance: 4
  • Level 5 – Increases the drop rate of Nectar Water upon defeating enemies with a mounted attack.
  • Level 10 – Increases speed when near death.
  • Level 20 – Increases mounted stability by 100%.

Hex Mark – Liu Bei’s Horse

Just like Cao Cao’s horses, Liu Bei’s Hex Mark can only be acquired through completing a special challenge.

For this one, you need to complete the “Battle of Chibi” on Ultimate Warrior difficulty while ensuring that 6 or more allied officers survive. Like before, we recommend just paying close attention to any requests for aid from allies to keep them alive. On top of that, just try to be as swift as possible to minimize risks.

Now, let’s look at Hex Mark’s stats and abilities:

  • Base Speed: 11
  • Endurance: 3
  • Level 5 – Extends mounted charge maximum distance by 50%.
  • Level 10 – Grants Bravery upon falling from your horse.
  • Level 20 – Reduces arrow damage taken by 80%.

Red Hare – Lu Bu’s Horse

Last but not least, Red Hare is the best of all the horses you can get in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. It’s the mighty Lu Bu’s trusty steed, so of course it’s the best horse in the game! As the saying goes: “Among men, Lu Bu; Among steeds, Red Hare.”

Obtaining this one won’t be easy, though. To get it, you have to defeat Lu Bu at the “Battle of Xiapi” on Ultimate Warrior difficulty without using any Meat Buns or portable items. That essentially means you can not heal at all during the fight. If you want some tips for this challenge, check out our dedicated article on how to unlock Red Hare.

With all that said, here’s the stats and abilities of the best horse in the game:

  • Base Speed: 12
  • Endurance: 5
  • Level 5 – Makes it possible for a mounted charge to defeat soldiers in a single strike.
  • Level 10 – Staggers nearby enemies when you land from a height.
  • Level 20 – Boosts mounted charge impact damage by 100%.

So, there you have it, that’s how to get all of the horses in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. Collecting all of them won’t just bolster your stables, though. It will unlock the “Eminent Equestrian” achievement, as well!
