Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred is now out, and it features the long-awaited continuation of the teaser shown at the end of the base game’s campaign. With its release comes a whole plethora of balance changes, revamped features, and entirely new additions.

Among these new features is the Kurast Undercity, which is a time-trial dungeon that is great for both leveling and late-game grinding. In this guide, we will be covering how to unlock it and give a brief explanation of what it is good for!

How to Unlock Kurast Undercity | Vessel of Hatred

To keep it simple, all you need to do in order to unlock this activity is to follow the main quest up until you reach the part called “Reunion”. Once you get to that point, just follow the quest markers on the map to get it done.

The only task given to you here is to talk to Neyrelle at Kurast. After that, she will ask you to meet her and Eru at the council room just a short walk away. Once the brief dialogue with the council is over, Reunion should be finished, and you will receive a new side quest labeled as a “feature unlock”.

This is the aptly named Kurast Undercity quest, which is a short chain of tasks that will unlock the new activity for you. Here are all the steps you need to follow to start and finish it:

  • Step #1 – After completing the Reunion main quest, speak with Ormus at Kurast. He will ask you to find Sihek inside the dungeon.
  • Step #2 – Upon finding Sihek and going back to the entrance, you will then start the quest “Undercity: Wail of the Forgotten”. Follow the quest markers and eventually, you will be introduced to one of the bosses of the dungeon.
  • Step #3 – Once you are done with the previous step, “Undercity: The Specter of Travincal” will start. This will basically put you through your very first run of the Kurast Undercity activity, so good luck!
  • Step #4 – Undercity: The Promise” will now begin. Go to the marked location on your map and collect the blood of ten Golden Snakes. Continue following the quest markers and you will be put through another run of the Kurast Undercity, with a different boss this time.
  • Step #5 – Finally, you will get the quest “Undercity: Starving Pride”. Once more, you will be collecting ten materials from enemies at the marked location on the map, and then you will go through one last run of the Kurast Undercity with yet another new boss at the end.

Congratulations, you should now have unfettered access to the Kurast Undercity activity, and whether or not you think it is worth it to grind there right now will be all up to you. Ideally, you might want to leave it be until you finish the new campaign first, just so you can get that out of the way.

Kurast Undercity – What is it Good For?

This dungeon mainly serves as a supplementary activity to all the other grinding methods already in the game. The kicker is that you will need something called a “tribute” in order to improve the rewards of completing a run.

These tributes can help you target farm certain items, but be warned, as they can also make the dungeon much more difficult. You will definitely need to use a build that can clear fast, so the classes considered “high tier” at the moment will shine here.

The activity also features a “bargain” mechanic alongside tributes. This will let you further customize the types of rewards you will get after a run. This won’t guarantee that you will get what you want, but it will certainly help narrow down the drop table at the cost of varying resources.

Overall, it is a great addition to the game that you can run endlessly, though the rewards will only really be worth it if you farm up some tributes first. These new tributes drop from other activities, such as dungeons, hordes, public events, etc.
