The best way to farm Ancestral variants of Legendary and Unique items in Season 7 of Diablo 4 is to complete Roothold dungeons. You have to clear Exposed Roots as you progress through these dungeons. Conveniently, every single Exposed Root has a fairly high chance of dropping Ancestral items.

Where to Farm Unique Gear and Charm in Diablo New UpdateMay 9, 2026However, you’ll need to get Whispering Wood Sigils to enter these Roothold dungeons. The best way to obtain them is to open Silent Chests while inside Headhunt zones. Alternatively, you can often get them by opening reward caches you get from Whispers and your reputation with The Coven.
Once you enter a Roothold, you’ll need to take two Rituals, Rites, or Ceremonies. These all apply debuffs and special effects to make the Roothold more dangerous. However, they also provide boons such as extra rewards.
When selecting these rituals, we highly recommend prioritizing any that say “Roots now yield +1 Major Rewards.” Major Rewards include the highly-coveted Ancestral items. After those, select any that say “+1 Exposed Roots spawn in the next section.” Having more Exposed Roots present will increase how much loot you get, so you can never have enough!
Truth be told, farming these Ancestral items is fairly similar to how you would farm Draughts of Whispers. So, we also recommend using Draughts of Whispers whenever you get them. They will increase your chances of encountering the Fugitive Head boss in the Roothold. This boss has higher Ancestral item drop chances than the standard Headless Husk, so they’re ideal for farming.
