45 articlesThe Needle’s Path is a main quest in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred that takes place on the slopes of Mount Hefaetrus in Skovos. It picks up right after A Still-Beating Heart and has you navigating through a lava filled mountain path alongside Tyrael. It is one of the more visually striking quests in the expansion and sits at an important point in the main story.
The quest is not the longest but there are parts that catch people off guard if they are not paying attention. In this guide, I will walk you through everything you need to know to get it done cleanly.
The Needle’s Path Quest Guide
Once you complete “A Still-Beating Heart” by defeating the “Beast of the Deep” and making your way through the Tunnel of Hefaetrus, “The Needle’s Path” will start immediately. From there, simply keep moving forward across the mountain. Check your minimap for the exact route as it is clearly laid out for you.
You will run into a few enemies along the way, take them out and keep pushing forward. Eventually you will reach a spot where magma fireballs start raining down from above. Tyrael will move ahead and create a barrier to shield you from them. Stay behind him and focus on taking out the enemies in the area.

It will not be long before you hit another area where lava starts coming down again. This time watch the floor carefully and stay away from where the lava is falling. Clear out all the enemies in the area and you are free to move on.
At the very end of the path you will reach the door of The First Vault. Interact with it to open it up and that is the quest done. It will be marked as completed the moment you open the door. If you are unsure about any part of the route, check the video below for a full visual walkthrough.

Mount Hefaetrus is unforgiving but the path through it is clear once you know what to expect. The lava sections are the only real threat and they are easy to handle once you know they are coming. Get through those and the rest of the quest is just a matter of clearing enemies and keeping pace with Tyrael to the vault door.
