War Plans are one of the most important systems to understand in Diablo 4. The system lets you build a playlist of up to five endgame activities and invest points into a skill tree for each one, changing how those activities play and what they reward. Season 14 updated it with fully shared party boards, increased Torment 8+ experience rewards, and more War Plan options for Helltide and Nightmare Escalations.
Respec costs can reach upwards of 50 million Gold at higher ranks, so knowing which nodes to target first makes a significant difference. In this guide, I will break down the best skill tree paths for every activity so you are not spending your points in the wrong places.
Best Season 14 Endgame War Plans
Here are the best skill tree paths for every endgame activity in Season 14. Keep in mind that the right setup can vary depending on what you are actively farming, but the recommendations below cover the most efficient and rewarding paths for the majority of players pushing through endgame content.
Tree of Whispers
The Tree of Whispers War Plan tree is a passive bonus that progresses alongside your other endgame activities, making it one of the easiest trees to level naturally.
While it does not drastically change your gameplay, the rewards it provides add up over time, giving you more materials, better caches, additional encounters, and even a chance at some of Diablo 4’s rarest crafting items. For this setup, you should prioritize the following nodes:
Tree of Plenty
This node increases your Whisper Cache choices from three to four whenever you turn in Grim Favors. Having an extra cache to choose from significantly improves your odds of finding a higher-quality reward, making it one of the best value nodes on the entire tree.
Wisdom of Whispers
Whisper Caches gain additional experience orbs, providing a steady source of extra experience and Paragon progression. While it is not the flashiest node, the bonus experience adds up considerably over the course of a season.
Chaotic Favor
Completing Whisper objectives has a chance to reward you with a Collection of Chaos in addition to your normal rewards. Since this is entirely passive, it simply means more loot for doing content you were already planning to complete.
Resplendent Favor
One of the strongest long-term nodes on the Tree of Whispers. It gives Whisper Caches a chance to contain a Resplendent Spark, an extremely valuable crafting material used to create Mythic Uniques. Even though the chance is fairly low, every extra opportunity is worth taking.
Grim Retribution
Completing Whisper objectives can trigger a Whisper Ambush, spawning additional enemies before you move on. These ambushes provide more monsters to kill, more loot, and serve as the gateway to even stronger encounters later in the tree.
Colossal Foe
This upgrades Whisper Ambushes by allowing powerful bosses to appear during them. These bosses always drop a Greater Collection of Chaos, making every ambush significantly more rewarding whenever they occur.
Malignant Invasion
The final node gives Whisper Ambushes a chance to spawn Varshan. Defeating him adds yet another source of valuable loot, making this an excellent finishing node for players who spend a lot of time completing Whisper objectives throughout the endgame.
Nightmare Dungeons
The Nightmare Dungeon War Plan tree focuses on making dungeons significantly more rewarding by adding extra loot, stronger encounters, and better Escalation progression.
Whether you are farming gear, materials, or Nightmare Escalation Sigils, these nodes provide a noticeable boost to your overall rewards. For this setup, prioritize the following nodes:
Waking Spoils
Grants an additional War’s Bounty Chest at the end of every Nightmare Dungeon. Since this is essentially free extra loot for content you are already completing, it is one of the best early pickups on the tree.
Gauntlet
Shrine buffs become much more powerful. While a Shrine is active, enemies you kill have their souls stored, and once the Shrine effect ends, they are released to be defeated a second time.
This dramatically increases monster density and creates another opportunity for additional loot and experience.
Fearless Conviction
Killing Elite and Champion monsters grants Conviction stacks, while taking hits from them removes stacks. At the end of the dungeon, a special Conviction Chest appears, with better rewards based on how many stacks you managed to preserve throughout the run.
Nemesis
Activating a Shrine causes several Elite monsters to ambush you. This pairs perfectly with Gauntlet, allowing you to fight even more Elite enemies and significantly increase your loot, experience, and Conviction stacks.
Dread Revival
Gives the final dungeon boss a chance to revive after being defeated. While this makes the encounter slightly longer, it also means another opportunity to earn boss loot without starting a new dungeon.
Recurring Nightmare
Increases the Monster Power of Nightmare Dungeon bosses while also giving them a chance to drop Nightmare Escalation Sigils. These Sigils are extremely valuable for chaining Escalation runs and unlocking even greater rewards.
Branching Pathways
One of the strongest nodes in the entire Nightmare Dungeon tree. During Nightmare Escalations, you receive additional portal choices between stages, allowing you to choose rewards that best fit your current needs, such as Gold, Materials, Equipment, or other valuable bonuses.
The added flexibility makes Escalation farming far more efficient and is one of the main reasons this node is highly recommended.
Helltide
The Helltide War Plan tree is one of the strongest choices in Season 14, especially if your goal is to farm Paragon experience, Boss materials, and Helltide rewards.
Many of the nodes revolve around spawning more Hellwyrms and increasing the value of each encounter, making this one of the most efficient activities to grind throughout the endgame. For this setup, prioritize the following nodes:
Tainted Shrines
Enemies empowered by Shrines grant double Threat progression when defeated. This allows you to reach maximum Threat much faster, which in turn leads to more Hellwyrm spawns and a much smoother farming loop.
Hated Foe
At maximum Threat, your highest-threat enemy is ambushed, granting +1 Monster Power when defeated. This helps increase the overall rewards from your Helltide runs while naturally progressing toward tougher encounters.
Meat Brothers
Once you reach maximum Threat, the usual Hellborne encounter is replaced by two Butchers. Defeating them has a high chance to drop Profane Mindcages, making this one of the best nodes for sustaining higher Monster Power farming.
Hellmouth
Whenever a Hellwyrm emerges, it spawns Chaos Rifts, Maggots, and Bloodseekers. These additional enemies dramatically increase monster density, experience gained, and the amount of loot you receive from each Hellwyrm encounter.
Writhe and Rot
One of the strongest nodes in the Helltide tree. Hellwyrms always spawn Maggots, with each one granting +1 Monster Power when defeated. This not only boosts your rewards but also turns Hellwyrms into one of the best experience farms available in Season 14.
Wretched Vermin
Demonic Rats begin appearing much more frequently throughout Helltides. These additional enemies increase monster density, giving you more targets to kill as you move through the zone.
Fall of the Fell
Harbingers emerge from meteors twice as often and drop twice as many Aberrant Cinders when slain. In addition, Harbingers gain +1 Monster Power, making them more rewarding and helping you collect Cinders much faster for opening Helltide Chests.
The Undercity
The Undercity War Plan tree is one of the best investments in Season 14 if your goal is to farm Mythic Uniques, Forgotten Souls, Tuning Prisms, and Tribute rewards.
Since Undercity runs are quick to complete and offer highly customizable rewards through the Tribute system, these nodes significantly increase the value of every run. For this setup, prioritize the following nodes:
Endless Swarm
Causes Invasion Portals to appear randomly throughout the Undercity. Defeating the enemies that emerge from these portals grants additional Attunement, allowing you to fill your Attunement bar more quickly and maximize your end-of-run rewards.
Unfortunate Souls
Invasion Portals can spawn Wisps that attach themselves to your character. As long as you survive the run, each Wisp rewards you with additional Forgotten Souls and other crafting materials at the end of the dungeon, making this one of the best sources of Forgotten Souls in Season 14.
Gutter Filth
Activating Beacons has a chance to summon Portal Pranksters. These special Treasure Goblins grant additional rewards at the end of the run when defeated and are one of the primary reasons the Undercity is such an effective activity for farming Mythic rewards.
Jade Epiphany
Every time you gain an Attunement level, experience orbs are generated. In addition, all Undercity monsters gain +1 Monster Power, increasing both the challenge and the rewards. This node provides an excellent source of Paragon experience while improving overall loot quality.
Finely Tuned
Completing the Undercity with maximum Attunement rewards additional Tuning Prisms, an important crafting resource used for endgame gear. This node also increases enemies by +1 Monster Power, further improving the rewards from each run.
Pathfinder
Reaching maximum Attunement opens a portal directly to the final floor of the Undercity, allowing you to finish runs more quickly. It also grants +1 Monster Power, increasing enemy difficulty and rewards.
Initiative
Upon reaching the final boss, you gain the Initiative buff. If you defeat the boss before the buff expires, your Tribute rewards increase by +2, allowing the reward bar to reach a maximum of +6 instead of the usual +4.
This is one of the strongest reward nodes in the entire Undercity tree and greatly increases the value of every successful run.
Lair Bosses
The Lair Bosses War Plan tree is designed for players who spend most of their time farming endgame bosses for Mythic Uniques, Boss-specific Uniques, Runes, and Hoard rewards.
Many of the nodes either increase the rewards from Lair Bosses or unlock additional boss encounters, making this one of the most rewarding War Plan trees for endgame progression. For this setup, prioritize the following nodes:
Lair of Runes
Lair Bosses gain +1 Monster Power and have a higher chance of dropping Runes. If you are farming Runewords or looking for specific Runes, this is one of the best early nodes to pick up.
Lair of Plenty
Lair Bosses gain another +1 Monster Power. In return, defeating them rewards you with one additional Hoard Chest, giving you even more loot from every successful boss kill. This hoverer does not include Belial.
Grigoire’s Gambit
After opening a Tortured Gift during a Helltide, there is a chance for Grigoire’s Knights to ambush you. Defeating these enemies gives you a chance to obtain Unique items from the Hoard Chest.
Two by Two
Opening a Hoard Chest has a chance to create a portal to a Nemesis Lair. Inside, you will fight two Initiate Lair Bosses in a single encounter, giving you another opportunity to earn boss loot and unique drops without spending additional keys. Keep in mind that you cannot enter a Nemesis Lair from Belial’s throne room.
Greater Nemesis
Completing a Nemesis Lair has a chance to open a portal to a Greater Nemesis Lair, where you will face two Greater Lair Bosses. These encounters offer even better rewards and are one of the biggest reasons to invest in this War Plan tree.
Out of the Cold
While fighting the final boss of a Nightmare Dungeon, the Beast in the Ice has a chance to appear and join the fight. If this happens, defeating the Nightmare Dungeon boss gives you a chance to receive Unique items from the Hoard Chest.
Dog of Astaroth
While fighting the final boss of a Nightmare Dungeon, the Amalgam of Rage has a chance to appear and attack you. If it spawns, defeating it gives you a chance to obtain Unique items associated with Astaroth, making this node another excellent source of boss-specific loot while completing your normal Nightmare Dungeon runs.
Infernal Hordes
The Infernal Hordes War Plan tree is built around making every Horde run more rewarding by increasing Burning Aether, loot, and encounter variety.
If you regularly farm Infernal Hordes for endgame gear, materials, and Masterworking resources, these nodes provide a noticeable boost to both efficiency and rewards. For this setup, prioritize the following nodes:
Exalted Council
The Bartuc and the Fell Council gains +1 Monster Power, increasing the difficulty of the final encounter while also improving the quality of its rewards. If you’re consistently clearing Infernal Hordes, this is an easy pickup for better endgame loot.
Council Coffers
Defeating Bartuc or the Fell Council causes a Chest of Talismans to appear after the encounter. The chest costs 100 Burning Aether to open and can reward you with a variety of Seals and Charms, making it one of the best nodes for players looking to improve their Talisman setup.
Method and Madness
Infernal Offers become weighted toward the category you selected previously. This makes it much easier to commit to a single strategy, such as focusing on Hellborne, Aether Lords, Soulspires, or Aetheric Masses, throughout the entire run.
Impending Doom
During the last 10 seconds of each wave, all available enemy spawn locations become active, causing a large surge of monsters to appear. This significantly increases your potential Burning Aether gains, especially when combined with powerful Infernal Offer synergies.
The Black Pact
Adds a fourth Infernal Offer option that matches the category you selected previously. This gives you much greater control over your build path and makes it easier to stack synergistic Offer choices throughout the run.
Total Chaos
Chaos Waves appear more frequently throughout your Infernal Horde runs, giving you more opportunities to earn Burning Aether. As a trade-off, you receive one fewer Infernal Offer after each wave.
Bedlam
Whenever you enter a Chaos Wave, you immediately gain +50 Burning Aether. In addition, all enemies in Infernal Hordes gain +1 Monster Power, increasing the challenge while also improving the rewards you earn from each run.
The Pit
The Pit War Plan tree is one of the best choices if you’re looking to level your Paragon Glyphs as quickly as possible. Most of its nodes either increase your Glyph Upgrade Chances or speed up your Pit runs by introducing mechanics that reward efficient clears.
If you’re spending a lot of time farming The Pit, these War Plans are well worth investing in. For this setup, prioritize the following nodes:
Choron’s Haste
The Pit gains the Haste Mastery objective. If you defeat the Pit Guardian, you gain +1 Glyph Upgrade Chance for every 5 minutes remaining on the timer. This heavily rewards fast clears and is one of the strongest nodes for quickly leveling your Glyphs.
Damned Thieves
Orb Thieves have a chance to appear during The Pit. When defeated, they drop a large number of Progress Orbs, allowing you to fill the Pit progress bar much faster. However, they leave a trail of traps behind, so be prepared to avoid additional hazards while chasing them.
Heart of Stone
You begin each Pit run carrying the Heart of Stone, a fragile relic that is dropped after taking sustained damage and breaks after being dropped ten times. While carrying it, enemies can drop additional Progress Orbs.
After defeating the Pit Guardian, Choron’s Pedestal appears. Depositing the Heart into the pedestal rewards you with +1 Glyph Upgrade Chance, making careful play especially rewarding.
Choron’s Blessing
Completing a Pit run grants +1 Glyph Upgrade Chance. Since this bonus applies to every successful completion, it is one of the most valuable nodes for anyone farming Glyph experience.
Pit Butcher
The Butcher has a chance to invade your Pit run. If you defeat him, the Pit is immediately completed. However, if The Butcher kills you, the run fails, making this a high-risk, high-reward node that can dramatically speed up your farming when successful.
Choron’s Favor
Special Pit events and encounters become more common in higher Pit tiers. This increases the frequency of bonus mechanics during your runs, providing additional opportunities to progress more efficiently.
Choron’s Soul
Choron’s Soul now spawns at the Awakened Glyphstone after completing a Pit run. It offers one Progress Orb for every Glyph Upgrade Chance you have earned during that run, allowing you to quickly gain additional Pit progress before moving on.
In addition, all Progress Orbs in The Pit now grant experience, making every orb you collect more valuable and improving your overall progression while farming The Pit.
Wrapping Up
That wraps up our recommended War Plans for Season 14. Since you can only invest a limited number of points, choosing the right nodes for the content you farm most is important. The recommendations in this guide are designed to help you get the most value out of your War Plan progression, but you can always adjust your choices to better suit your own playstyle and endgame goals.
