A beginner’s life in Zenless Zone Zero can be rough during the early game progression without a proper guide, thanks to how confusing some things may be.
Similar to other games in the genre, you get bombarded by a variety of mechanics pretty early on in the game. But it’s all deceptively simple once you know what it is you need to focus on to actually progress!
In this guide, we’ll tell you the main ways to go through the early game progression with ease.
Beginner’s Guide to Early Game Progression
Tutorials up to Level 10
Now, right off the bat, we highly recommend that you read our article on mistakes to avoid if you haven’t yet. It tells you about key ways to get resources for free and also warns you about things such as how to avoid wasting said resources. These are important parts of the early game progression in Zenless Zone Zero.
Anyway, the earliest stages of the progression are when you start the game up to when you reach account Level 10. This is all basically a tutorial, where you should just focus on following the storyline and learning the basics. You’ll unlock new features as you progress, such as the ability to explore more parts of the world and Zenless Zone Zero’s Gacha system.
Most importantly, you will unlock the ability to use the VR Device once you reach Level 10. This is part of the main story and is completely unmissable, so just keep playing until you reach that point!
Using the VR Device & Errands
The VR Device is your one-stop shop for everything you need when it comes to leveling and upgrading. It features various Simulations that you can partake in, each one rewarding you with materials and experience. You’ll also unlock higher difficulties with even better rewards later on as you keep leveling up.
However, the VR Device has one limitation: Stamina. Doing any of the Simulations will consume a set amount of Stamina, which recharges naturally over time. It’s highly recommended to do some Simulations as soon as your Stamina is topped up so that you can continue recharging it while doing other things.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that higher difficulties offer increased rewards but don’t actually consume more Stamina. That means that you should stick to the highest difficulties you can beat to maximize your rewards for Stamina spent!
As for Errands, they are the next logical step for progression. These daily tasks will give you various objectives to follow for progressing through the game and will reward you with lots of Experience and other resources.
Aside from continuing the main story, the VR Device and Errands will be your main sources of early game progression in Zenless Zone Zero until you complete the main commission “Earlybird Ticket to Safety”. Completing that quest will unlock the Hollow Zero game mode.
Welcome to Hollow Zero!
Hollow Zero is a roguelite mode where you take on a randomized set of challenges in sequence. At times, you’ll get temporary upgrades that will help you complete your current run of Hollow Zero. It’s very similar to Honkai: Star Rail’s Simulated Universe, HoYoverse’s previous game.
Managing to overcome the challenges in Hollow Zero will give you a lot of resources to upgrade your characters, W-Engines, and Bangboos. It’ll also beone of your main sources of Experience throughout the whole game.
Just like with the VR Device, you’ll unlock higher difficulties with better rewards as you progress. Do be warned, though, Hollow Zero can be pretty dangerous in higher difficulties if you’re not well prepared!
Also take note of the Weekly Challenges for Hollow Zero, which are milestones that will give you even better rewards simply for doing well in this game mode.
At this point, you don’t really unlock any noteworthy methods of progressing your account further. You will simply need to continue using the VR Device, Errands, and Hollow Zero while progressing the story. Make sure to complete side quests as well, as they offer a large boost of Experience.
It should be pretty easy for you to reach Level 30, which is when things start to slow down and you officially enter the midgame. At this point, you can start to focus more on simply upgrading your characters through any means possible so that you can keep taking on the higher difficulties of these modes.
Nonetheless, we hope our beginner’s guide has helped you get started on your early game progression in Zenless Zone Zero. It’s all fairly simple once you get past the initial dazzle of learning all the various mechanics!
