Banishers Ghosts of New Eden: How to Open Cursed Chests

Cursed Chests are a special type of collectible in Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. Despite being cursed, these chests carry valuable contents within and can only be unlocked under special conditions. Here’s how we managed to open them!

How to Open Cursed Chests

While adventuring through the open wilderness areas of New England, you’ll encounter chests that emanate a glow purple. These cylindrical boxes are called Cursed chests and hold valuable treasures.

To open them, you’ll need to make your way to the Witch’s island and perform a ritual that requires special ingredients.

How to Unlock Unbounding

After completing the dark woods arc in Banishers: Ghost of New Eden, you’ll be invited to the Witch’s island. At the island, you will need to have a conversation with the Seeker who resides there and they’ll tell you the story of Fear-god Waterbury and his experiments with sealing magic chests.

The Seeker will also tell you of a clue located inside his hut. The clue will reveal a way to unlock cursed chests and will activate the Spirit Unbounding quest.

To complete the quest, you’ll need to enter the hut of the magic-wielding deceased. You can find the hut located to the north of the Hunter’s Camp. To enter the hut, you must destroy the walls with an Outburst.

On the inside of the hut, you will find Waterbury’s notes with an incantation that when used can unlock chests.

Wooden Figurines

Obtaining the Waterbury’s notes is only the start, to unlock cursed chests will still need to locate 3 wooden figurines.

The wooden figures are mainly located in and near the wooden hut. These wooden figurines have a purple glow, so they shouldn’t be that hard to find, as seen in the image above.

Perform Ritual

Once you find all 3 of the figurines, make your way over to the cursed chest.

Once there, a ritual circle will appear. Choose the Unbounding ritual from the list. A short animation will then play and you’ll be able to unlock the cursed chest.
