Alter the terrain however you like.

When it comes to defending your base, nothing beats natural terrain. While in most games you will need to build your base in a specific way to make use of terrain, Aska allows you to alter the terrain instead through Terraforming.

Terraforming is an extremely useful tool in this game, but only if you know how it works. Luckily for you, our complete Terraforming guide looks at everything you need to know about it to use it to your advantage.

Complete Terraforming Guide

Before using Terraforming in this game, it is important to get through Aska’s grueling early game. Check out our complete beginner’s guide for Aska to get the best possible start.

How Does Terraforming Work

Ground that has been leveled using Terraforming

Terraforming in Aska allows you to level any ground you want in this game. Other than that, it also allows you to raise or lower the ground level.

The Terraforming tool in this game is called Terrain Level Field

You can Terraform in Aska using the Terrain Level Field. The Terrain Level Field can be found by selecting the Tools option in your menu

Selecting the ground using the Terraforming tool will allow you to level it

Once you select the Tool, you will be able to place posts on the ground, and any ground between these posts can be altered. The game will allow you to use the Terraforming tool as long as the posts you are placing are green.

If the highlighted ground is red, you will not be able to level it.

If they turn red, then you will not be able to alter that ground. Normally the posts will only be red if the elevation between your 2 posts is too much or if the posts are too far apart. In both cases, adjust the posts until they turn green.

You can level highlighted ground by going up to it and pressing E on your keyboard.

Once you’ve placed your posts and covered the blocks in between, you can start leveling the ground. For this, all you need to do is go up to each green square and press the E key on your keyboard.

Raising & Lowering Ground Level

Terraforming in this game can also be used to raise or lower the ground level. Both raising the ground level and lowering it can be done in a very similar fashion.

The starting point of your posts determines the elevation of the ground.

When using the tool, the ground can be raised or lowered depending on what the starting point of your posts is. So, if you want to raise the ground level, your starting point needs to be higher than the ending point. It’s the opposite for lowering it, as your starting point will need to be lower than the ending point.

A lot of times, the ground that you are working on might be too flat. A very flat ground will make it very hard for you to raise or lower the ground level, as the starting and ending points will be on a similar elevation.

You can import ground from a higher or lower point.

If you run into this issue, you will need to import higher or lower ground. To do this, all you need to do is select the closest ground that is of your desired elevation level. From there, use the Terraforming tool to put down your posts and press E on the square closest to the ending posts.

This should leave you with a block of ground with different elevation from all the ground around it. You can then use this block to change the level of the ground surrounding the block.

How to Use Terraforming

Early on, you will mainly use Terraforming to make the ground underneath you an even level. This will make it easier for you to build a base, as you will have more flat ground to work with.

Later on, you will want to use Terraforming as a defense tool. Defense is very important for your village, as enemies will constantly attack your base. It is your responsibility to defend your base and keep your villagers safe.

Example of a wall built using Terraforming

The best way to use Terraforming for defense is by making walls. You can build a wall by raising the ground around your base. Natural terrain is the best defense in this game, as enemies will not be able to go through it. Man-made structures and defenses can be destroyed by AI in this game.
