There are many ways that you can improve your units in Age of Wonders 4. It could be through buffs from your tomes, abilities from your heroes, etc. One such example is enchantments.

Basically, enchantments grant your units certain bonuses that will improve their overall abilities in combat.

For example, you can grant them magic attacks that inflict a random negative status effect on enemy units, or attacks that deal extra elemental damage.

Regardless, enchantments are powerful, and we’ll teach you how you can make the most out of them.

How Do Enchantments Work in Age of Wonders 4

The only way you can unlock enchantments is through the tomes that you picked. Basically, some tomes will contain a spell that grants enchantment to your units.

In order to know which spell is an enchantment, you have to hover over its icon and check if it has the Unit Enchantment tag.

As you can see from the image above, the Havoc Magic spell from the Tome of Pandemonium has an enchantment that grants units the ability to inflict a random negative status effect on their targets.

Also, it’s worth noting that each enchantment will have specific requirements when it comes to the units it affects.

Using the same example we used earlier, you’ll see that Havoc Magic can only be applied to Battle Mage and Support units. In that case, you won’t be able to use it on Charge units, for example.

Another important thing to note is that enchantments will cost you mana. You will be able to cast them via the Strategic tab on your Spells menu.

After casting them, they will appear on the Active tab, showing the amount of mana they cost per turn in order to maintain their effect.

While there’s really no limit to how many enchantments you can cast on a given battle, it will end up eating a huge amount of your mana.

However, as long as you learn how to manage your mana usage and production, you can include enchantments in your strategy for your win condition.
