Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth really does not like to have its characters be at ease. While vacationing on the beaches of Costa del Sol, you’ll be attacked by the Grasptropod boss. It looks pretty intimidating, and it honestly is.

If you’re struggling to beat this boss, it’s not just you. Its gimmicks make it hard to beat, but with our tips, you should be able to handle it just fine!

How to Defeat Grasptropod

The Grasptropod’s gimmick is kidnapping your party members. When the fight starts, you can choose between two possible parties.

You can either have Aerith and Barret, or Tifa or Red XIII. It doesn’t matter who you go with, so choose whoever you like more and want to progress in a relationship with.

The Grasptropod will capture more of your party members as the fight progresses, so keep that in mind. Other than that, the Grasptropod is a pretty straightforward Tank enemy. As long as you pour consistent heavy damage into him, you should be fine.

Like most other machines in the game, the Grasptropod is immune to most Status Ailments. The exception to this is Lightning, as the boss is weak to it. In addition, it also has lessened resistance to Cold attacks.

It’s important to consider that Grasptropod sort of functions like a timed boss. There’s no timer on screen, but as the fight progresses and time passes your Party members will be captured. This will put you at a significant disadvantage.

We recommend spamming any and all Synergy Skills and Abilities you have. By doing a lot of damage, especially with Lightning attacks, you can build Pressure on the boss. There’s no gimmick to the fight where the boss can’t be attacked conventionally like the Phoenix, so just focus on doing as much damage as possible!

A lot of the Grasptropod’s attacks can be dodged by just jumping and running away. It has some area of effect attacks that can be annoying, especially Sublimated Toxin which inflicts poison. In that case, just run away from it.

Typically, you’ll find that focusing on Aerial attacks and Aerial combos will allow you to do a lot of damage to the boss safely. Do this until the boss is Staggered, after which using skills like Thundara is what we would recommend.

Last Phase

Eventually, the boss will enter a new phase where it has a couple of cylinders you have to target and destroy. Thankfully, this doesn’t require much effort at all.

Any lightning ability like Thunder or Thundara will wipe them out immediately. Just focus on those cylinders and the fight will be over in no time.

It’s really just as simple as doing a lot of damage for the most part. It is still a fun fight, and the unique gimmick of capturing party members makes it a fun challenge.
