COD Modern Warfare 2: How to Fix GPU Driver Version Error

How to Fix GPU Driver Version Error in COD Modern Warfare 2

The GPU Driver Version Error is mainly due to an outdated driver for your GPU. It’s a fairly common and recurring issue even in the previous Call of Duty games. In fact, there’s a chance that you already encountered such an issue in previous games like Vanguard or Warzone.

Luckily, there are several fixes you can try to solve this problem. However, before you try to fix the issue, you want to check first if your system meets the game’s minimum requirements. COD: Modern Warfare 2 isn’t really resource-intensive, but you’ll still need to meet several specs to launch it properly.

Here are the game’s minimum system requirements:

• 8 GB RAM
• Windows 10 64-bit OS
• Intel Core i5-3570 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X CPU
• NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 or AMD Radeon RX 470
• 3 GB VRAM
• 25 GB Storage

If your computer has met all of those requirements, then you should try the fixes below to solve the issue:

Update Your Drivers

As the main cause for this issue is an outdated driver, the very first fix you want to try is to update your graphics driver. Not only will this potentially solve the problem, but it can also improve the overall performance of the game and any other game in general.

In order to update your graphics driver, you want to check its manufacturer first. To do so, open the Run menu by pressing the Windows key and R at the same time. In the blank field, type in dxdiag and hit Enter.

In the Display tab, you should be able to find the info for your GPU, including its name, manufacturer, etc.

Next, head to your GPU manufacturer’s website, look for your GPU’s driver, and download it. After downloading, simply run the setup and follow all of the instructions. This will take a little while, and once it’s done, restart your computer.

Now, try to relaunch COD: Modern Warfare 2 to see if the issue still persists.

Clear Your GPU Cache

In some cases, your GPU’s cache could be the reason why you’re experiencing the error. To do this, all you need to do is delete the files inside your GPU’s cache folder. Once again, this will depend on the manufacturer of your graphics card.

If you have an NVIDIA card, simply follow these steps:

1. Open the Run menu once again by pressing the Windows key and R at the same time
2. In the blank space, type in %localappdata% and then hit Enter
3. Look for the NVIDIA folder, and inside it, you should find both DXCache and GLCache folders
4. Simply delete all of the contents inside of each folder
5. Go back to the %localappdata% folder, and this time, look for NVIDIA Corporation
6. Look for the NV_Cache folder and delete its contents
7. Restart your PC and relaunch the game

Meanwhile, if you have an AMD card, then follow these steps:

1. Run your AMD Adrenaline Edition app
2. Head over to the Settings which you can access by clicking on the gear icon
3. Go to the Graphics tab and click on Advanced
4. Click on the Perform Reset option, and relaunch your game afterward

Check for Windows Updates
