Wuthering Waves recently released a huge update with a lot of new content, including a whole region full of mysteries and challenges to discover and complete. In this guide, we will be covering the side quest called Trials of Old, which involves a series of challenges that you have to overcome.

Trials of Old Side Quest Guide

At the start of the Trials of Old side quest, you will be tasked with going to Porto-Veno castle. The map marker will lead you to a corner of Thessaleo Fells, which is found at the southwest of Ragunna City. Head over there to uncover the mystery behind these supposed trials.

At the quest marker, you can interact with a sort of spirit or echo of the past. After this cutscene, you will now have to complete four trials in separate parts of the map. Pick whichever you want to go for first and we will cover each individual challenge in the following sections.

Trial #1 – The Paintings (Trial of Wisdom)

The closest quest marker from the start of this quest will lead you to a challenge in which you must place the paintings in the correct position. There will be hints you can read here, and you have to rearrange each work of art based on these.

To make it easier, grab all four of the paintings first and drop them at the middle of the arena. Now, here are the hints and the corresponding painting for each:

  • “Upon this island, the people tamed its wilderness and built new homes.” – The scenic painting with people farming in the foreground.
  • “At long last… after the skies had wept their fury, the fleet spied a new island on the horizon.” – The painting with the ship on the left that has white sails.
  • “Through the raging storm, a handful of ships fought their way through the storm’s wrath.” – The painting with ships that are in the center of the frame.
  • Obviously, the last painting goes on the only remaining empty slot.

Once you have placed each painting in the correct spot, you will be notified that the challenge has been completed. An Advanced Supply Chest will appear at the center of this arena, so go ahead and loot that before proceeding to the next trial.

Trial #2 – Dodging the Dancers (Trial of Perception)

The next closest trial from the previous one is called the Trial of Perception. For this one, your camera will shift into a bird’s eye view. Your task here is to observe the movements of the Vitreum Dancers, who will appear and dash in set directions.

All you need to do here is activate the trial and watch where the Vitreum Dancers will go. When the observation phase is done, step on a spot where their red lines will not go. That is really all you need to do.

You will need to do a few of these challenges, and it is incredibly simple. You can even readjust on the go, since you have more than enough time to move before the dancers start to dash forward.

Trial #3 – Fighting Spirits (Trial of Bravery)

The Trial of Bravery is another incredibly simple challenge. It is basically just a straightforward fight, in which you have to defeat a set of enemies before the timer runs down to zero. You have over a minute and a half to beat these mobs, which should not even remotely be an issue for any decent team.

Trial #4 – Fighting Spirits, Again (Trial of Swiftness)

Finally, the Trial of Swiftness is another straightforward fighting section with a time limit. However, this time they will be spread out rather than contained in a single arena. Also, you will notice that you can’t deal damage to them through traditional methods.

Each marked enemy has to be defeated through the use of environmental hazards. You cannot miss each object to interact with, as they are violently glowing.

The first one, for example, requires you to break the stone pillar by turning into Cuddle Wuddle and slashing the nearby glowing marks. After beating each marked enemy, you can safely proceed to the next one.

The next two enemies will require you to pull pillars by interacting with the glowing orange marks. The only thing of note here is that you will need to climb over the debris after the second one to get past the energy barrier blocking the way.

After getting over the barrier, you just need to pull another pillar and then break two more as Cuddle Wuddle. After the last one, the challenge should be completed, and an Advanced Supply Chest will appear at the top of the stairs.

Once you have finished all four trials, regardless of what order you did them in, you will now have to return to Porto-Veno Castle. There, you can deliver all of the medals to the spirit, Chloe. After the cutscene, you can try to follow her into the castle, but the gate will not open.

After all of that is done, the quest will finally be complete and you will receive your rewards. Congratulations, you can now proceed to other quests in the new regions!
