Death Stranding 2 features a decent amount of combat, so it’s a good idea to focus on the best starting weapon to ease things out. There are hundreds of unlocks in this game, mostly earned through raising facilities’ Connection Levels. As such, it’s important to know which ones to focus on first for strong early weapons. In this guide, we’ll tell you which weapons to get early on and how to get them!

Best Starting Weapon | Death Stranding 2

There are three different weapons that we would consider fitting for the “best starting weapon”, not just one. That is due to the different use cases for each weapon. Having all three is ideal for optimal versatility during encounters! These are our recommendations and how to get them:

  • SL Machine Pistol – DS2 is a game where, ideally, you want to stick to stealth. As such, this silenced pistol is a must-have, especially early on in the game. To get it, you just need to raise your Connection Level with the Ciudad Nudo del Norte (C1) facility in Mexico to 3-stars.
  • Blood Grenade Lv.2 – Blood Grenades are a must to deal with the BTs, which are also one of the most dangerous threats in the game. This upgraded variant deals a lot more damage, especially if you shoot through the blood mist it releases upon detonating! You get it by reaching 3-stars Connection Level with the C1 South Distribution Center in Mexico.
  • Assault Rifle Lv.2 – A fairly basic gun, but one that works well in every situation at nearly every point in the game. You’re likely to use this one quite a lot in this game! This upgraded variant boasts better ammo efficiency, damage, and handling. To get it, reach 4-stars Connection Level with the C1 South Distribution Center in Mexico.

That’s our best starting weapon recommendations for the early game in Death Stranding 2. Since they’re all available in the first region, they don’t take long to get at all! If you’ve already left the Mexico region, check out our guide on how to return to Mexico. It’ll help you come back to get these rewards.
