Apply status effects on your enemies to get the upper hand!

Zenless Zone Zero has an extensive combat system that makes the game fun to play. Just like other ARPGs, this game also has a way of applying status effects on enemies. It is called Anomaly.

In this guide, I will explain how you can build up Anomaly, what stats affect it and what kind of anomaly effects are possible to apply in this game.

Anomaly System (Status Build-Up)

When your agent does attribute (elemental) damage to an enemy, an anomaly is built up for that attribute on that enemy. The anomaly build-up meter is present at the right side of the enemy’s health bar as you can see below.

Meter

When the build-up is complete, the enemy will be inflicted with an anomaly effect. The effect depends on the attribute of the anomaly applied. In the image below, you can see that the enemy is inflicted with Shock which is due to Anby’s Electrical damage.

Stats that affect Anomaly

There are 2 stats which have a direct impact on the anomaly build-up and damage of an agent. These stats are Anomaly Mastery and Anomaly Proficiency.

Stats
  • Anomaly Mastery
    • This stats determines how fast your agent can build up anomaly on an enemy. The higher this anomaly mastery, the faster the anomaly build-up.
  • Anomaly Proficiency
    • This stat will determine how much damage is done by the effect caused by anomaly.
    • For example, the enemy will receive much more electrical damage when shocked by Grace as compared to Anby. This is because Grace’s anomaly proficiency is way higher than Anby.

There are currently two agents that specialize in anomaly: Grace Howard and Piper Wheel. These agents are very good at building up anomaly on enemies. In the future, we might get to see more anomaly specialized agents.

Anomaly Effects

There are 6 types of anomaly effects that you can inflict on an enemy and they are as follow:

Anomaly EffectCaused ByResult
AssaultPhysical AttributeInterrupts the enemy and deals a huge amount of damage to them.

The enemy’s daze meter will also fill up faster for a certain amount of time.
BurnFire AttributeThe enemy will receive continuous Fire damage.

Organic enemies will be interrupted by this effect.
ShatterIce AttributeThe enemy is immobilized and receives more critical damage.

When the effect ends, the enemy will receive Ice damage.
ShockElectric AttributeThe enemy receives more damage from Electric attacks.

Machine enemies will be interrupted by this effect.
CorruptionEther AttributeThe enemy receives more damage from Ether attacks.

Ethereal enemies will be interrupted by this effect.
DisorderWhen you apply an anomaly effect on top of another existing Anomaly effectThe first anomaly effect will be overwritten by the second one.

When this takes place, the enemy will receive a lot of damage and daze.

Whether it's the old classics like Final Fantasy, Advance Wars on the GBA, JRPGs like Persona 4 Golden, Disgaea on the Vita or mainstream titles like Elden Ring, Red Dead Redemption 2, Haider has played them all. Even with 200+ titles under his belt, his passion for gaming is just as strong as it was a decade ago. Writing has given him the chance to spread this passion with others.
